Kwah is an 18-year-old man who lives with his family in Karen State, Burma. He and his parents are farmers, but he has not been able to work since a tragic accident. He has access to basic health care through the Karen Department of Health and Welfare, but more advanced care is not available where he lives. About four months ago, Kwah fell off a bridge and sustained a fracture of his left wrist, leaving him unable to move his hand. Kwah was initially treated with casting and pain medication, and an X-ray confirmed that his wrist was fractured in two places. Doctors informed him that due to the complexity of the fracture, he would need to travel to a larger city for fracture repair surgery. However, his family knew they could not afford the surgery, and the fracture was left to heal on its own. Over time, the fracture has not healed well, leaving Kwah in severe pain and unable to use his hand. He requires help for basic tasks and has difficulty sleeping at night because of the pain. Fortunately, Kwah has travelled to our medical partner’s care center seeking treatment. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Kwah will undergo surgery to reset his fractured bones and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for November 4th, and it will cost $1,500. After healing, he will be free from pain and will be able to use his hand again. Kwah shared, “I wish I could get treatment as fast as possible and want to be free from this pain. With your help, I can get treatment in a big city that I never dreamed of being there. Thank you so much for helping me.”

Aminata, who is 10 months old and lives in Mali, is the fourth child born in her family. For the past five months, Aminata has been experiencing a swelling in her umbilical region, and experiencing intermittent pain. Aminata's parents brought her to our medical partner's care center, Centre de Santé de Référence (CSREF) Commune 6. Upon a thorough examination, Aminata was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia, which is a tissue bulge in the belly button area, that occurs due to a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Aminata needs to undergo a hernia repair surgery to treat her condition, and prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Muso, is requesting $377 to fund Aminata's hernia repair surgery, which will take place on August 11th, at Centre de Santé de Référence (CSREF) Commune 6. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow Aminata to live a healthier life. Aminata's mother says: "I look forward to having my daughter recover from her illness, and to regain her health."

Kuntha is a 61-year-old corn farmer from Cambodia. She lives in Kampong Cham Province with her elderly mother and her fourth sister, who works at a bank. She is the eldest of five siblings. While all of her younger siblings are married, she remains single. She enjoys listening to monks prayers and growing vegetables around her home in her free time. About 10 years ago, Kuntha noticed a small lump on the left side of the front of her neck. The lump gradually became larger over time. After evaluation at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter affecting the left thyroid lobe. Although the lump is not painful, it has become more noticeable over the years, making her worried about her health and self-conscious about the appearance of her neck. She also fears that it may continue to grow if left untreated. Kuntha traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 13th, surgeons at Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Kuntha is contributing to her treatment, but needs help to raise an additional $294 to fund the procedure. She said, “I hope this surgery will remove the lump and give me peace of mind. I have worried about it for many years, and I am grateful for the chance to finally receive treatment.”
