Annet is 46 years old and a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a married mother of nine children, four sons and five daughters. Her husband works as a builder. She enjoys listening to the radio, especially after work, and her favorite meal is potatoes and beans, which is one of the most common foods grown and eaten in southwestern Uganda.
Since February 2025, Annet has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, backache, limb paralysis, abdominal discomfort, and generalized body weakness. When she visited the hospital, she was examined and found to be hypertensive, and an ultrasound scan was done. She has been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia and polyps and surgery was recommended. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $219 to fund Annet’s surgery. On February 5th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care facility, Karoli Lwanga Hospital. Once recovered, Annet will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Annet says, “Even right now, the pain I am going through is too much. The only thing keeping me going are the painkillers. I would not be able to afford the cost of surgery on my own.”
