This is Fikirete, a 14-year-old young lady from Ethiopia. She is a sweet, quiet girl who lives with a large family of five brothers and sisters! Before getting sick, Fikirete used to enjoy cooking and preparing meals for her family.
Almost two years ago Fikirete was diagnosed with osteomyelitis of the left hip, an infection of the bone and bone marrow. She lives with severe pain which has caused her to leave school. Fikirete wants to get well so that she can go back to school and help her family around the house. Of her parents she says, “I want to help them.”
For $440, Fikirete can receive an osteotomy, a procedure in which the dead and diseased bone tissue is removed. Doctors except that the osteotomy will allow Fikirette to recover fully and be pain-free. She should be able to go back to school and live an active life. Watsi donors can help this ambitious teenager get back to school. Let’s do it!
