Meet Boniface, a 26-year-old who lives in Kenya with his mother and five siblings. His father and brother passed away a few years ago, so Boniface works in a vehicles' spare shop to help support his mother's income working on their small farm. Last year, Boniface began experiencing painful head migraines. He took over-the-counter medicines to try and alleviate the pain, but when he recently went to the doctor he was diagnosed with both hydrocephalus and a brain tumor. Hydrocephalus is an accumulation of water in the brain that causes increased pressure in the skull. In conjunction to this condition, the tumor has made it difficult for Boniface to see, and he needs assistance with walking because he cannot keep his balance very well. He also had to stop going to work. Boniface already received surgical treatment to drain the accumulated fluids and reduce the cranial pressure, but now surgeons recommend a crainiotomy to remove his tumor. If not treated, Boniface will continue experiencing migraines and risk complete blindness. Furthermore, he will be at risk of the tumor growing and causing more severe complications, even resulting in death. After his operation, Boniface will be able to return home to his family and continue supporting his mother and siblings. "I want to be free from the migraines and continue helping my mother," Boniface shares.

Meet Souen, an 83-year-old man living in Cambodia. He has seven children and 25 grandchildren! Souen enjoys going to the local pagoda to listen to the monks speak. "Soeun began losing his eyesight gradually due to the mature cataracts in both of his eyes. He is now partially blind," our medical partner tells us. "He is sad that he has to rely so much on his family to care for him and he cannot recognize anything or anyone." With $100, we can help Souen see again. This is Fikirete, a 14-year-old young lady from Ethiopia. She is a sweet, quiet girl who lives with a large family of five brothers and sisters! Before getting sick, Fikirete used to enjoy cooking and preparing meals for her family. Almost two years ago Fikirete was diagnosed with osteomyelitis of the left hip, an infection of the bone and bone marrow. She lives with severe pain which has caused her to leave school. Fikirete wants to get well so that she can go back to school and help her family around the house. Of her parents she says, “I want to help them.” For $440, Fikirete can receive an osteotomy, a procedure in which the dead and diseased bone tissue is removed. Doctors except that the osteotomy will allow Fikirette to recover fully and be pain-free. She should be able to go back to school and live an active life. Meet Ezala, a 10-year-old living in Malawi. Ezala enjoys school, playing soccer with his friends, and helping his parents farm. He says he does his best to help out with household tasks, too.
