Hean is an 80-year-old grandmother from Kompong Cham province. Now retired, she worked for many decades as a rice farmer. She has two daughters, one son, and ten grandchildren. Since her husband passed away two years ago, she moved in with her youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. In her free time, Hean likes to listen to monks pray on the radio and help care for her grandchildren. One year ago, Hean developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus is unable to travel on her own. When Hean learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On March 8th, doctors will perform surgery on Hean's right eye. Hean needs help to fund this $253 procedure. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Hean says, "I hope after surgery I can take good care of my grandchildren."

Saroeun is a 60-year-old farmer from Svay Rieng province. She has eight sons, one daughter, and fifteen grandchildren who keep her busy. She lives with her husband, who is a farmer, and her youngest son who is still studying in school. At home, she enjoys listening news on the radio. One year ago, Saroeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and light sensitivity. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Saroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 2nd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery which will break up the cataract with ultrasound, irrigate the eye, and remove the cataract through suction. Then they will implant a new lens in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Saroeun said: "I hope I can see everything and recognize faces clearly after surgery. I would like to plant more crops and go outside."

Kim is a 71-year-old retired rice farmer. She is from Kandal province in Cambodia, and has one son and two grandchildren. Currently, she lives with her son who is a construction worker. Her husband passed away many years ago. Some of her favorite activities include joining ceremonies at her local pagoda and cooking for her grandchildren. Two years ago, Kim developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, light sensitivity, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Kim learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 8th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said: "I hope my vision improves and I can get around easily by myself. I want to be able to help care for my grandchildren and walk to the pagoda by myself."
