Zemi is a 68-year-old man from Malawi and a father of six children. Zemi’s wife passed away a few years ago, and their children, who are all grown and married now, help care for Zemi, as he cannot farm anymore due to his medical condition.
About 47 years ago, Zemi began to experience troubling symptoms, including a mass that grew quickly on his neck. He began to have neck pains and become breathless and weak, making it so he could not work on his farm or carry heavy items. Worried, Zemi sought medical attention, but when nothing changed in his condition, he stayed home. Last week, Zemi learned about our medical partner’s program from a community member who had received treatment. Zemi traveled to the care center, where he underwent tests and was diagnosed with a thyroid condition called euthyroid multinodular goiter. The thyroid gland is located in front of the neck and produces thyroid hormones responsible for essential functions, such as metabolism and growth. Zemi needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from worsening.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Zemi finally receive the treatment he needs to heal. On April 1st, he will undergo a thyroidectomy, during which surgeons will remove all or part of his thyroid gland. Zemi contributed a co-pay toward his care and needs assistance raising an additional $1,015 to fund his surgery.
Zemi said, “Donors, kindly help me to get better so I can enjoy living my last days of life in good health.”
