Orn is a 70-year-old rice farmer who is married and has four sons, three daughters, and fifteen grandchildren. He lives in Cambodia and likes to go to the pagoda to listen to monks pray.
One year ago, Orn developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurred vision, tearing, itchiness, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. It is difficult for him to see things clearly, recognize faces, do any work, and go anywhere outside.
Orn knew about our medical partner's care center, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), because a neighbor in his village had surgery there. He traveled for three hours with his daughter to reach CSC for treatment.
On January 16, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, Orn will be able to see clearly again. Now, he needs help to fund this $292 procedure.
"I hope that my eyes can see everything more clearly," says Orn, "so that I can easily help my family do work on the farm, do housework, take care of my grandchildren at home, and go anywhere by myself."
