Two-month-old Ahmed lives in Ethiopia. His parents work as farmers to provide for themselves and their three children, but their income is barely enough to get by day-to-day.
Ahmed was born with a birth defect known as anorectal malformation. Because of his condition, Ahmed has developed bowel obstruction and must undergo an emergency colostomy operation.
Watsi’s medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $1,500 to cover the costs of Ahmed’s surgery, an overnight hospital stay, an ultrasound, an X-ray, lab tests, pain medicine, and antibiotics. Ahmed’s surgery is currently scheduled for June 1 at our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre.
“We can’t afford the medical bill,” shares Ahmed’s father. “We are farmers with very limited income. It was even hard to cover our transportation cost to get here.”
IDespite the condition and all the adversity, Ahmed is a happy baby whose smile serves as motivation to his troubled parents, who look forward to seeing their son grow up into a healthy young boy.
“It is only because of the help of others that we made it here,” Ahmed’s father continues. “And now also it is our hope that our child will get the treatment.”
