This is Mbone, a young baby from Tanzania. Mbone was born with a unilateral club foot, which will make it difficult for him to learn to walk. "When the time comes for him to walk he will use the lateral aspect of his right foot for walking if not treated. His gait will be affected as well as his ability to perform other activities.” says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Without the ability to walk normally, Mbone will likely fall behind in school and in life. Mbone’s parents are small scale farmers, and rely on the often-unpredictable harvest for their income. They work very hard to support their children, but often struggle to make ends meet. Fortunately, Mbone and his parents came to our medical partner in Tanzania for treatment and Mbone’s club foot can be treated for $1160. With funding, doctors will surgically correct Mbone's foot, enabling him to develop normally and participate in all the same activities as his peers. “We are happy to know that such defects can actually be correct and that is what we need for our son: for him to have straight feet so that later on he can walk properly, work hard and be independent,” says Mbone's mother.

Meet Brenda, a two-year-old girl living in Kenya with her parents and three siblings. Brenda has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor. According to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, "Brenda's sickness began a couple of weeks ago and [her health] has significantly deteriorated. Brenda is unable to walk and suffers from severe headaches." Without craniotomy surgery, "Brenda is likely to suffer brain damage and/or death," her doctors explain. Brenda's father works on a tea plantation and her mother does small scale farming on a piece of land inherited from her parents. Raising funds for Brenda's surgical care has been quite a challenge for her family but they are determined to get her access to the care she needs. Her mother says, "Watching Brenda battle this illness has been very painful, and I pray that she gets treatment immediately, so that she lives a healthy life." For $1,260 we can give Brenda the treatment she needs to grow up healthily and happily. Our medical partners say that with surgery, they expect that Brenda "will be able to attend school and have a normal life when she grows up." Let's help give Brenda a bright future!

This is Ma Nay, a 43-year-old woman who lives in Burma. "Ma Nay has worked on the farm since she was a young girl," our medical partner, Burma Border Projects, writes. "But now she has health problems and she cannot work like before." Ma Nay has had a uterine mass since she was 34. In the last month, however, the pain in her stomach and her uterus has been greater. In addition, Ma Nay has also experienced constipation and has had difficulty urinating. "She experiences back pain when she sits for long periods of time," BBP writes. "The mass is so large that she can feel its hardness from the outside of her clothes." Doctors have recommended a surgical procedure to address the mass and relieve Ma Nay's pain. The procedure, including hospitalization, medication, and outpatient care, will cost $1500.

Ishara is a 55-year-old woman from Nepal. She lives with her husband, their three sons, and three grandchildren. The family is involved in agriculture for most of the farming season, which is enough to sustain them for half of the year. Her sons work in India every year in order to earn for the family. According to our medical partner, Possible, “Ishara was going down the stairs at her home when she slipped and missed a few steps on the ladder and hurt her heel. She has developed a swelling on the ankle. She can not walk due to pain. This has made her unable to perform daily activities.” For $205, she will receive a “short leg plaster of paris cast,” which will relieve her pain and allow her to walk again. John is 38 and lives in Kenya. Last year, he was assaulted with a machete, and his right arm was seriously injured. He has had two surgeries but is still not able to move his right hand due to extensive tendon and nerve damage. John was married for four years, but after his injury he was no longer able to provide for his wife, so she left. John now lives with his parents, who are small scale farmers. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, tells us, "John feels saddened that he is forced to depend on his elderly parents instead of him supporting them." John adds, "I want to get well and be able to work again." Before his injury, he had a job at the local bus terminus. John needs $1500 for a surgery that the doctors say will restore the use of his right hand. Let's get John the care he needs to recover fully from his assault. Roseline is an 18-year-old caring mother of one who lives with her husband and child in Kenya. Roseline’s husband is a farmer, who owns a small piece of land, which he uses to provide for the family. Knowing that education is powerful and having never completed her education herself, Roseline walks her child to school every morning. Roseline is pregnant with her second child but is experiencing abdominal pain that interrupts her daily activities. “I pray for safe delivery in the hospital and also, God guide me in being a caring, loving and a happy mother to my children,” says Roseline. Ma Thu was hit by an ambulance in May last year. Our hospital partner writes, "while she came out of the accident relatively unscathed, a cyst developed under her teeth as a result of the accident. The cyst makes it difficult for Ma Thu to eat and keep food down. The cyst also causes blurred vision, headaches and dizziness, making it impossible for her to assist her parents in the field. Her parents are very worried about her future and feel guilty that they are not able to afford her treatment." Before the accident, Ma Thu moved to her aunt's place in hope of going to school for the first time. She was hit by the ambulance only one day after arriving. She hopes that once she is well again, she can start school. Ma Thu is nervous about going to school for the first time at 15, but she is determined to be educated and one day be a school teacher. Her parents work on the farm growing rice and beans but it is not enough to make ends meet. For $1,500, we can fund a procedure to remove the cyst and help Ma Thu start a healthy life. With treatment, Ma Thu can focus on getting an education and following her dreams.

Phannith loves to play with toys and has a lot of energy! Unfortunately, this Cambodian kid has difficulty walking and running because of something that happened to him when he was an infant. When Phannith was a baby, he had a bad fever. His village doctor gave him injections in the leg to make him better. But they caused his leg to become stiff. He cannot bend his knee, which reduces his overall mobility and makes it hard for his body to keep up with his active personality. For $300, Phannith will receive a surgical procedure called a quadriplasty to improve his leg's flexibility. His mother hopes that he will be able to start school soon. Erlanda is a bright eight-year-old girl from Haiti who loves to dance and read. She takes her studies seriously and wants to become a doctor. Erlanda lives with her parents, brother and sister. She is especially close with her mother, whom she calls her best friend. When she was four, Erlanda was diagnosed with congenital heart disease. One of the valves in her heart is unable to adequately pump blood to the rest of her body. As a result, Erlanda is constantly out of breath and unable to participate in physical activities. For $1500, a surgical repair of her pulmonary stenosis can fix Erlanda’s condition once and for all, enabling her to lead a healthy life going forward.
