Arleth is a young girl from Bolivia. Arleth’s mother is a homemaker, and her father is a driver. Arleth’s parents were told she had a heart condition when she was 4 months old, but they were too scared to go ahead with surgery; it is only now that they have been brave enough to bring her back to the hospital. Arleth is always happy and smiling, but because of her heart condition, she gets sick very often.
Arleth has a cardiac condition called ventricular septal defect. A hole exists between the two lower chambers of her heart: blood leaks through this hole without passing through her lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving her weak and short of breath.
On May 14th, she will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. Doctors will sew a patch over the hole during surgery so blood can no longer leak. Arleth’s family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover the cost of cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical fees, follow-up care, and medications.
Arleth’s father says, “We as parents are scared, but we trust God and the doctors, and we will pray and hope for the best!”
