While Sophia is quiet, she likes being with other children and playing with lego blocks. Sophia lives with her single mom who sells second hand clothes to support her small family.
Sophia was born with a club foot which affects her gait, causing her to walk slowly and abnormally. Her doctors say “she is at high risk of developing early osteoarthritis of the small bones if not treated.” Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, shares, “as much as Sophia’s mother wants her daughter’s foot to be corrected, she just can’t come up with enough money to pay for the required treatment.”
For $1,160, Sophia will receive corrective surgery to allow her to walk normally and decrease her chances of developing osteoarthritis.
Sophia’s mom says, “I love my daughter and want the best for her. I know education is the only thing that can give her a better future, but I’m afraid her foot will not allow her to do the best she can. I hope and pray that she will get proper treatment so that she can excel in life.”
