Sambo is a 41-year-old moto-taxi driver. He and his wife - who works as a tailor - have two children, a son who is seven, and a daughter who is eight. When he isn't working, Sambo likes to read books, watch TV, and look after his children.
In June 2021, Sambo sustained a burn to his left hand and elbow, as a result of a gasoline fire. His family took him to a clinic in Siem Reap Province for dressing changes and wound care. After a year, Sambo's wound remains unhealed, and he has developed contractures in his elbow. He is in pain and unable to move his arm, due to the burn scars. The pain from the contractures - and his inability to move his arm - have made it difficult for Sambo to drive his moto-taxi, and to earn a living to provide for his family.
When Sambo learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for six hours to seek treatment. On July 4th, surgeons at Kien Khleang Rehabilitation Centre will perform a burn contracture release surgery to eliminate the dead skin and the contracture, replacing it with a free flap. Once the surgery has been completed, Sambo will have full use of his arm, and he should be pain free. Now, he needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Sambo said: "I hope my burn can finally be fixed. It has been very painful, and I am unable to work to support my family."
