Asha is a student from Tanzania. She is the seventh born in a family of eight children. Asha's parents are small-scale farmers growing maize, beans and vegetables to support the family. Asha has clubfoot of her left foot, a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. In 2010 she was able to have treatment through a team of visiting surgeon that helped corrected her foot and made walking easy and normal for her. Through the treatment she was able to wear shoes and walk like other children and also was able to study with ease. She is currently in form one though she has had to stop her studies and try seeking for treatment of her relapsed left foot which is now making walking hard and painful for her. The relapse has been there for three years now but as time goes by, it keeps worsening and walking is becoming more challenging. Fortunately, Asha traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on January 31st. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $890 to fund Asha's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily again and go back to school. Asha says, “I would like to be able to walk without difficulty, please help me.”

Siphilina is a 68-year-old talkative grandmother. On 25th of October, 2019, Siphilina fell, sustaining severe left femoral neck fracture. She was taken to the nearest health facility but could not get treatment due to the severity of the condition. She spent some days at home as she was unable to afford medical care. She was in great pain, could not walk and had difficulties sitting or lying in bed. Fortunately, Siphilina went to Kapsowar hospital whereupon diagnosis, she had an ORIF surgery recommended. The surgery will relieve her of the pain, reduce the chances of ambulation problems and further closed fracture complications. Siphilina, a humble millet farmer lives with her daughter and three grandchildren in the village. She lost her husband years ago. Her only source of income is from subsistence farming which has very low-income yields. This limits her ability to raise the required hospital fee for the surgery. Siphilina appeals for help to be able to meet the cost of surgery.  Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On October 30th, Siphilina will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. The surgery will reduce the pain, fix the fracture reducing chances of further complications on her left leg. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $968 to fund this procedure. Siphilina says, “I want to be able to walk sit and even feed by myself like other people.”

Arobo is a student from Ethiopia with three siblings who are also students. He is a nice boy who is outgoing and playful. Arobo loves to play football with his friends and loves to read books. Arobo’s mother is a widower and their family lives in a remote area. Her income is very limited even to sustain the basic need of the family. Arobo was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Arobo is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on December 12. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,231 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Arobo's brother said “We hope he will be healed from his condition after this surgery. And if he heals our mother, I and our sisters will be relived from worry. And he will also be well psychologically.”

Navy is a 43-year-old tailor from Cambodia. She has four children, and enjoys cooking and watching television in her spare time. When she was nine years old, Navy had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Navy experiences ear discharge, tinnitus, headaches, hearing loss, and itchiness. She has a difficult time hearing others and cannot communicate well. Navy traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On September 03, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. "I hope that after my operation, the infection will heal and I will no longer have any tinnitus ear discharge and my hearing will improve."

Kosal is a 21-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He likes to play sports, watch television, and help his wife with the housework. In May 2019, Kosal was in a traffic accident and fell off his motorcycle, injuring his left shoulder. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He finds it difficult to lift his arm and move normally, and is unable to work due to his injuries. Kosal traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On September 4th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to regain function in his arm. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to use my arm again and can return to work."

John is formerly a shop attendant from Kenya. He was employed as a shop attendant but since the attack, he has been dependent on well-wishers. He currently lives in a $5-a-month rent wooden house. Her aunt cares for his daily needs. John has an existing hospital bill from his initial spine surgery. John was attacked by thugs and thrown off a two floor building in 2016 suffering spine injury. He had spinal fusion done in our facility and recuperated. He however noted some swell on his back in 2019. He has an open wound is unable to work. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping John receive treatment. On August 21st, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure. He will be able to work after recovery and the risk of sepsis will be eliminated. Now, John needs help to fund this $1,129 procedure. John says, “I am in great pain and would wish to have an ease of it”.

Salesa is a young boy from Kenya. He was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Salesa is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on August 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $700 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “Please assist my son get treated. He is growing up fast,” says Salesa’s father.

Diana is a student from Kenya. She has clubfoot of her right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Diana traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on June 20. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Diana's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily.

Srey Cheng is a fourth-grade student from Cambodia. Her favorite subjects to study in school are math and science, and she hopes to become a doctor when she grows up. When she was four years old, Srey Cheng had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Srey Cheng experiences discharge, itchiness, headaches, and hearing loss. She experiences pain and difficulty hearing at school, which distracts her from her studies. Srey Cheng traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 24, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $842 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to hear clearly and not worry about my ears anymore."

Smaha is a student from Haiti. She lives with her parents and three siblings in Cap Haitien, a city on the northern coast of Haiti. She attends first grade, and likes coloring and doing art projects. Smaha has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus. A blood vessel between the pulmonary artery and the aorta that normally closes soon after birth instead remains open. Blood flows through it, bypassing the lungs and depriving the body of the oxygen it needs. Smaha underwent a surgery two years ago to tie off the duct, but unfortunately the defect has re-opened; she will now undergo a different type of procedure called cardiac catheterization to close it in a way that makes it very unlikely to ever reopen again. Smaha will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On May 3, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will use a device attached to the tip of a catheter to block the leaking duct. Another organization, Gift of Life Inc., is contributing $8,000 to pay for surgery. Smaha's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Smaha's family overseas. Her mother says, "I am praying that after this trip to the hospital my daughter will be fully healthy."

Lucy is a young woman from Kenya. She is married and has one child. One year ago, Lucy began to experience abdominal pains. A CT scan showed that she has abdominal cysts. She needs to undergo abdominal surgery to treat her condition. Without treatment, Lucy will continue to experience pain. Fortunately, she is scheduled to undergo surgery on March 7. She needs help raising $750 to fund this procedure. “I am not able to take care of my baby and it is becoming difficult for my husband to go to work and also take care of us," she says.

Tha Norn is a 30-year-old musician from Cambodia. In his free time, he likes to play the piano, listen to music, and go outside with his friends. Two years ago, Tha Norn was in a traffic accident that resulted in an injury to his right shoulder. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to work or play his music. Tha Norn traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 4, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, After surgery, Norn Tha will be able to make use of his entire arm again. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope that after surgery, I will be able to go back to work and make money for my family."
