Sreymey is a 15-year-old teenage girl from Cambodia. She is the youngest of four siblings and lives with her mother and brother in Kampong Cham province. Her father passed away when she was a toddler. Her mother works as a potato farmer and her older brother is a monk who lives and studies at a pagoda. Her other two siblings attend a nearby school. Sreymey is currently in the 5th grade, and enjoys studying Cambodian history and culture. Sreymey dreams of working in a salon when she grows up. At home, she likes to eat vegetable soup, and she loves spending her free time painting and drawing. Sreymey was born with Escobar syndrome, a rare genetic disorder characterized by multiple pterygia, or web-like skin folds, across joints and other parts of the body. This condition causes muscle tightness throughout her body, affecting both her upper and lower extremities. Her joint mobility is very limited, making it difficult for her to walk and perform daily activities. Because of this, Sreymey is behind several grades in school, but hopes to attend more regularly and focus on her studies. Sreymey was referred by a relative to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). She and her mom traveled for five hours to seek treatment. On June 13th, surgeons will perform a web neck release surgery to improve the function of her neck and head movement. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is seeking assistance to fund the $462 needed for Sreymey's surgery and physiotherapy. Sreymey said, "I hope I can return to school as soon as possible."

Edinah is a dedicated 51-year-old small-scale farmer and a loving mother. Since losing her husband fourteen years ago, she has worked tirelessly to support her three children, who are still in school. Having dropped out at just six grade due to financial struggles, Edinah dreams of providing her children with the education she never had. For the past 15 years, Edinah has faced troubling health issues, including swelling in her neck that makes breathing and swallowing difficult. She can no longer work on her farm the way she used to, and her quality of life has suffered greatly. Edinah has been diagnosed with a non-toxic goiter, and without surgery, her situation will only worsen. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Edinah receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 3rd at Karoli Lwanga Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need your support to help her regain her health and continue to care for her family. Edinah says, "I am all my children have, and I work tirelessly to help their dreams come true. However, with my current health condition, I am losing my strength. I believe that with your support, I can have the surgery I need to recover and continue farming, ensuring that I can provide for my family."

Sok Horng is a 24-year-old woman who lives with her parents and her husband. Her parents are rice farmers and her husband works in a retail shop. At home, Sok Horng enjoys trying new recipes and listening to music. On August 25th, 2024, Sok Horng was in a motorcycle accident that resulted in a fracture of her right ring finger and a laceration of her upper lip. She was treated at a public hospital in Phnom Penh, where surgery was performed on her lip. Sok Horng came to our medical partner, Children Surgical Center (CSC), because she could not afford another surgery for her finger. Currently, she experiences swelling and intense pain, and is worried that it will make it difficult for her to work. On August 26th, Sok Horng will undergo a closed reduction and cast application surgery on her finger to ensure that the bones heal correctly, and reduce the risk of complications, allowing her to use her finger for work again. Sok Horng is able to contribute $50 but needs help to raise $435 more to fund the procedure. Sok Horng said, "I want to return to work soon and be able to help take care of my parents at home."
