Salimu is a 22-year-old young man from Malawi, who lives with and cares for his mother. He has an older brother who cares for their younger brother, who is currently in Form 4. Following his parents' separation when he was in secondary school, Salimu dropped out of school due to a lack of school fees, and joined his mother in selling second-hand clothes. He presently works in a film show room, earning about $20 per month - barely enough to support the household. In late 2025, Salimu was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. He has been experiencing swelling episodes that have continued to worsen, significantly impacting his daily activities and ability to work. Surgery has been recommended, and he is hopeful that it will restore his health and enable him to resume his role in supporting his mother and contributing meaningfully to the household. However, Salimu is unable to afford the treatment costs. Fortunately, on April 9th, Salimu will undergo hernia repair surgery with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. He is able to contribute towards the cost of his treatment, but still needs help raising an additonal $575 to fund the procedure. Salimu says, "As a young man, I humbly seek your support for medical treatment, so that I can continue supporting my mother."

La Min is a 12-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his parents and three brothers in Myawaddy, Karen State, Burma. His father is a day laborer, and his mother takes in laundry. He and his two older brothers are students, but his younger brother is too young to go to school yet. The family’s monthly income is not enough to cover the family’s daily expenses, so they often borrow money from a neighbor to get by. Since 2023, La Min has been experiencing swollen tonsils which make it difficult for him to breathe. He coughs and snores at night and has difficulty sleeping, so he sometimes has to sleep sitting upright. Because of his difficulty breathing, he gets tired easily, so his parents sometimes do not allow him to play football or cane ball with his friends. La Min was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a tonsillectomy for La Min, which is scheduled to take place on March 17th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving La Min of his symptoms and helping him live more comfortably. La Min said, “I look forward to eating anything I can again. Right now, my mother just cooks plain food, so I want to eat something delicious again.”

Leiris is a friendly and intelligent seven-year-old girl from Colombia. She loves to play sports and dreams of being a flight attendant. Three years ago, Leiris developed an umbilical hernia, a condition in which a small portion of abdominal tissue protrudes through the navel. The condition has been causing her pain and discomfort, which prevents her from playing sports and participating in other school recreational activities. Following her diagnosis, surgery was recommended to correct it and prevent future complications. Unfortunately, her family is unable to raise the funding required for treatment. Fortunately, our medical partner, Clinica Noel, is helping Leiris receive treatment. On March 20th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery, which once completed, will hopefully alleviate her symptoms. Now, Leiris's family needs help to fund this $786 procedure.
