Savoeurn is a 26-year-old truck driver who lives in Cambodia with his mother and older brother. His father passed away ten years ago. His mother is a retired rice farmer and his brother also works as a truck driver. In his free time, Savoeurn grows vegetables near their house and takes odd jobs in the village to help support his family. When Savoeurn was 15 years old, he was bitten by a snake, resulting in necrosis on his right hand's middle finger. He received treatment at a public hospital, but developed a scar on the finger. Over time, his third finger has become smaller and weaker, and he has lost the ability to use it. Our surgeons have diagnosed that his middle finger needs to be amputated due to the dead tissue and contracture affecting his hand function. Savoeurn and his family were referred by a friend to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). On July 8th, surgeons will perform a finger amputation surgery on his right hand. Savoeurn and his family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment but need help raising an additional $379 to fund the procedure. After the surgery, he hopes he will be able to use his right hand more easily, and that he will be able to drive safely and comfortably.

Phyu is 44-year-old seamstress from Thailand. She lives with her roommate, who works at the same factory. In her free time, Phyu likes to cook, clean, and talk to her daughter who lives in Myanmar. At the beginning of 2023, Phyu started experiencing back and abdominal pain. After seeking treatment she was diagnosed with adenomyosis, a condition where endometrial tissue grows into the uterine wall. She has been advised to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, which is the surgical removal of her uterus and cervix. If left untreated, Phyu's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Fortunately, Phyu is scheduled to undergo her hysterectomy on July 9th. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Once recovered, This procedure will eliminate her pain and allow her to return to work. Phyu said, “I really hope I can continue to sew after the surgery, as I enjoy doing it and I like my career.”

Michelle is a mother of two from the Philippines. She is a stay-at-home mother and spends most of her time doing household chores. Michelle has been diagnosed with breast cancer and without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Michelle receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on September 10th. Part of her medical costs are supported by government health insurance but Michelle needs $1,058 to cover the remaining cost of her procedure. After treatment, Michelle will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Michelle says "Thank you very much for this wonderful opportunity to live normally and live without fear. With improved health, I hope to be able to care for my family. I am hopeful that this surgery will positively change our lives and allow us to face the future with greater confidence and stability."
