Meet Maxwell, a 13-year-old from Kenya. He is the only child of his single mother. He lives with his grandmother, a widow, and takes care of her other five children. He is in 7th grade and dreams of becoming a surgeon or a footballer. Maxwell’s grandmother is a support staff member at our medical partner’s care center, Nazareth Hospital.
About a week ago, Maxwell was playing football and unfortunately fell, injuring his right shoulder. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where an X-ray revealed a fractured clavicle. Despite receiving an arm sling, Maxwell continued to experience pain, so his grandmother decided to bring him to Nazareth Hospital, where surgeons reviewed the x-ray and recommended surgery.
On October 28th, Maxwell will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. If left untreated, Maxwell may lose function in his right hand, which could lead to malunion and other side effects in the future. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,048 to fund this procedure.
Maxwell’s grandmother said, “I pray to God that my grandson will get better and one day become a surgeon or a footballer as he wishes.”
