Kenawaka is a playful and cheerful 15-month-old boy from Ethiopia, who enjoys spending time with his older sister. He lives with his parents and sister in a rented home. His father works as an accountant to support the family, while his mother is a homemaker. Kenawaka's mother first noticed that something was different when she took Kenawaka to the hospital for circumcision. After examining him, the doctor told them that he would need specialized assessment and treatment, and referred them to a public referral hospital in the capital city. Following the referral, Kenawaka's parents waited another year due to a long surgical wait list. Though they were increasingly anxious, they could not afford care in a private facility so they continued hoping that they would be attended to soon. Recently, the referral hospital informed Kenawaka's parents to bring him to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Kenawaka was diagnosed with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of future complications. Fortunately, Kenawaka is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on September 25th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Kenawaka's father said, “Thank you so much to everyone at BethanyKids. We are truly grateful to all the staff for their kindness and care. Everyone has treated us with so much respect and made us feel comfortable throughout this journey. We are very happy and thankful for the support Kenawaka has received. We love our son so much, and our greatest wish is to see him healthy and happy after his surgery.”

Alemayew is a teenage boy from Ethiopia. This 14-year-old student is one of nine children growing up in a large, hardworking family. He lives with his father, who works as a farmer, his mother, who is a staff member at a flower factory, and his seven brothers and one sister. One year ago, Alemayew started to experience discharge and pain in this leg. Following his review at our medical partner's care center, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, doctors have recommended that Alemayew undergo a sequestrectomy, a surgical procedure involving the removal of fragments of infected, dead bone or tissue. If not treated, it can lead to recurrent infections that may result in life-threatening complications. Fortunately, on July 1st, he will undergo repair surgery. Alemayew's family needs help raising $900 to fund his procedure and care. Once completed, this procedure will alleviate his symptoms and prevent serious long-term complications. Alemayew's parents shared, "We are forced to watch our son in pain as we do not have the money for the surgery. We're asking for your help."

Vortey is a 20-month-old girl from Cambodia. She is an only child and lives with her parents in Kompot Province. Her father works at a bank, while her mother runs a small coffee shop. She enjoys eating caramelized pork and grilled fish. On January 14, 2026, Vortey was burned by hot water, injuring her left hand. She received treatment and regular follow-up at a hospital near their home, but the burn healed with scar tissue that later caused contractures in several fingers and the web spaces. The burn scars have tightened around her left middle, ring, and little fingers and the spaces between them. This limits her finger movement and makes it harder for her to use her left hand normally. When Vortey learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled four hours to seek treatment. On September 17th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to loosen the tight scar tissue and improve movement in her left fingers and hand, helping her use her hand more comfortably as she grows. Now, she needs help to fund this $652 procedure. Vortey's father said, “Seeing her fingers become tight after the burn has been difficult for us as parents. I hope this treatment will give her better movement in her hand so she can play with her sister, learn as she grows, and use her hand more comfortably.”
