Edith is preparing to welcome her second child into the world, but in Kenya where she lives, most expecting mothers lack access to basic maternal care. 90% of maternal deaths occur in developing countries, and it’s often because women can’t give birth in a clean facility with a skilled birth attendant.
Edith supports her family by selling rabbits and growing maize, beans, vegetables and potatoes on her farm. Her strenuous work causes her back pain, but being the ambitious woman that she is, Edith hopes to invest in a better business after she delivers her baby.
For $215, our Medical Partner Lwala Community Alliance will provide Edith with antenatal check-ups, pregnancy related health education, a safe delivery by qualified clinicians, and a baby check-up before leaving to go home.
Let’s start Edith and her new child off on the right path!
