Sok Him is a 25 year-old garment factory worker, living in Kampong Thom province, Cambodia, with her husband and five year old son. Sok Him's husband supports the family by working as a delivery driver. Until recently, Sok Him had been a homemaker. However, she has decided to return to work, as her son is about to enter kindergarten. Sok Him was born with polydactyly of her left hand, which means that she has an extra thumb on that hand. This condition makes it difficult for her to use her left hand at work. On July 3rd, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a polydactyly repair procedure to remove the extra digit. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $299 to fund this procedure. After surgery, Sok Him will feel more comfortable, and she will be able to use her hand more easily, especially as she returns to work. Sok Him shared: "I hope I can have surgery so that I can do my work more easily."

Derrick is a pre-teen student who is being raised and cared for by a guardian. Unfortunately, his guardian has financial constraints and cannot afford more than the basic necessities for Derrick. As a result, Derrick has limited access to healthcare and needs financial support to improve his health. We expect that after treatment, his quality of life will improve, and he will be able to resume his studies. Since October last year, Derrick has had supra-umbilical hernia. The swelling has been progressively increasing in size and causing him pain, which made it difficult for him to concentrate while at school. If left untreated, the condition could progress and lead to intestinal obstruction. Fortunately, on April 12th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Derrick's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Derrick's guardian says “I am helping this little boy because he has no parents and I have no money to take this big step for his health. We hope he will resume school if he gets support for his surgery.”

Path is an elderly retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province. He is married and has four daughters and three grandchildren. They live with their third daughter, who has a mental health disorder and needs their care. Due to her age, his wife no longer work and their daughters support them financially. At home, he likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visits the pagoda whenever he can. Three years ago, Path developed a cataract in his left eye. His ability to care for his family has been compromised because he finds it challenging to be outside in bright or dim light. When Path learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors will performed a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. Following a successful recovery, he will regain his clear vision. However, he currently requires assistance in funding the $253 procedure. Path said: "I hope that after the surgery, my eyes will be able to see better and I will feel happy again. I want to be able to see my family and friends, see the beauty of the world, and worship at the pagoda with joy again."
