Erick is a ten-year-old boy and is the first of his mother’s two children. Erick’s mother earns a living by selling vegetables in the local market. He has never met his father. He is a bright boy who enjoys school and is currently in the fourth grade.
Erick was born with a right club foot. He was treated at a local hospital, but his mother was afraid that the surgeons would amputate his foot and so removed him from the hospital. An outreach team of Watsi’s medical partner discussed with Erick’s mother that it was possible to treat Erick’s foot without amputation, and give him the chance to walk normally again. $1,160 will cover the cost of the surgery and post-operative treatment that Erick needs.
Erick said, “I would like my foot to be straight like the other one, I also hope that the pain will go away when I am walking.”

Erick Athumani was successfully treated for his club foot.
Ten-year-old Erick Athumani was born with congenital clubfoot, which prevented him from walking throughout his childhood.
After a few rounds of casting treatment, Erick Athumani is already doing very well! He is showing tremendous improvement with the manipulation and bi-weekly casting procedures. As he continues in his treatment process, he is expected to be able to step on his feet properly and eventually be able to walk and wear shoes.
