Scovia is a small-scale farmer from Uganda and a mom to three children aged 22, 21, and 14. She separated from her husband about ten years ago and provides for her children’s care and schooling on her own. She owns a three-room semi-permanent house on her land and farms for a living.
For a little over a year, Scovia has been experiencing lower abdominal pains, dizziness, headaches, and other worrisome symptoms. She sought treatment at our medical partner’s hospital, where the doctors performed tests to determine she has uterine myomas. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus, in order to prevent her condition from worsening.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $319 to fund Scovia’s surgery. On February 4th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at their hospital. Once recovered, Scovia will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Scovia said: “I pray for a successful surgery with a positive outcome. Once given treatment, I hope to resume farming as soon as possible and be able to look after my family.”
