Nolawi is a six-year-old kind and sociable boy from Ethiopia. He loves solving puzzles and enjoys learning, especially Mathematics. He also loves playing with his younger brother. Nolawi is the first born child in his family. He lives with his parents in a rented house. His father works at a private company, and his mother works as a personal assistant.
Nolawi’s mother first noticed that something was wrong when he started experiencing discomfort and a burning sensation when urinating. He also developed a cold. Concerned, she took him to a doctor, who requested that he undergo an ultrasound. Nolawi was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Nolawi has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. When his mother learned about the diagnosis, she was very worried and frustrated. At the time, Nolawi was also underweight, which made her even more anxious.
Upon advise from her relatives, Nolawi’s mother took him to a larger hospital, where he was placed on a waiting list for surgery. Due to the flu, his surgery had to be postponed a few times. Months later, Nolawi’s mother brought him to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM), to see another doctor. When the doctor examined him, Nolawi’s general health condition had improved, but he still needed surgery.
Nolawi is receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 10th. AMH is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
Nolawi’s mother said, “We are very grateful for your support. Your help reaches families like ours and gives us hope. God bless your work and service. Your support will greatly reduce our burden.”
