Miftah is a playful eight-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He enjoys playing football, spending time with his younger brother, and watching television and cartoons. He is currently in Grade Two. Miftah's father is a daily laborer, while his mother works as a cleaner. Since birth, Miftah has had an inguinal hernia. This condition occurs when tissue or part of the intestine pushes through a weak area in the groin muscles, causing a swelling or bulge. His mother first noticed the swelling while he was playing. The swelling would appear and then disappear on its own. Later, when Miftah became unwell and complained of stomach pain, his mother took him to the hospital. During the examination, the doctor noticed the swelling and requested an ultrasound scan. Miftah was referred to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). Fortunately, on September 25th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $512 to fund Miftah's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Miftah's mother shared, “The staff welcomed us warmly and clearly explained everything about my son’s condition and treatment. I am very grateful for their support. It was a great relief to learn that he could receive the surgery. Thank you to everyone who is helping children like Miftah. I pray that Miftah will be blessed with good health and many more happy years. May God bless you all for the care and support you have given him.”

Sarun is a 72-year-old widow from Banteay Mean Chey province, Cambodia. She previously sold Chinese noodles for a living but has now stopped working because of her poor eyesight. Her husband passed away 20 years ago. She has two sons and two grandchildren. She currently lives with her oldest son, who works as a laborer harvesting potatoes. In her free time, she enjoys listening to the radio, especially monks praying, and attending ceremonies at the pagoda. About two years ago, Sarun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking. She is unable to go places on her own. When Sarun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for 7 hours to seek treatment. On May 8th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Sarun said, "I hope that after surgery, my eyesight will improve so that I can see clearly again, recognize people and surroundings easily, and return to selling Chinese noodles well."

Ei is a 24-year-old woman from Burma. Ei lives with her husband, young brother, sister-in-law, and 1-year-old niece. Ei owns a shop and sells dry foods, snacks, and juice with her sister-in-law. Her husband and younger brother work as motorcycle taxi drivers. Ei’s family’s combined monthly income is just enough to meet their basic needs. They have limited access to healthcare and purchase medication from a local shop whenever they are sick. In December 2025, Ei experienced intense pain from a mass on her leg. She has difficulty walking and has noticed her condition is worsening. Ei traveled to our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, to receive care, and on May 7th, surgeons will remove the mass. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Ei's procedure and provide her relief from the impact of the mass and prevent other health complications. Ei said, “I felt really stressed when the cold weather came, and felt uncomfortable because I couldn’t walk as other people do. I’ve changed my mind and gathered the strength for my surgery, and I want to walk normally without the pain. I am happy to receive the support from BCMF and the donors for my surgery.”
