Kang is a 67-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married and has seven children. She lives with her youngest daughter, who is a garment worker. Kang likes to care for her grandchildren and listen to monks pray on the radio. About two years ago, Kang developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract clouds the eye's lens, like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Kang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On October 22nd, doctors will perform a small-incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Kang shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see more easily and I can go back to help my daughter to take care my grandchildren and go outside and do my housework well."

Vichea is seven years old and a Grade 3 student from Cambodia. He lives in Kampot Province with his parents and his three-year-old younger brother. His father is a farmer, and his mother is a vegetable seller. He enjoys studying mathematics and playing football with his friends. He dreams of becoming a police officer when he grows up. On August 3, 2026, Vichea fell while playing with his friends at school, causing a closed fracture of his right wrist. The fracture causes swelling and pain in his right wrist, making it difficult for him to move his hand, hold objects, write, eat, and participate in school and play activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 5th, Vichea will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $600. This procedure will realign and stabilize the fractured bone, helping his wrist heal properly. After recovery, he will be able to use his hand more comfortably, return to school, and play with his friends again. Vichea's father said, “Seeing my son in pain is very difficult. I hope this surgery will help him recover completely so he can return to his normal life as soon as possible.”

Srey is a 65-year-old woman and a retired farmer from Prey Veng, Cambodia. Her husband passed away 20 years ago due to hypertension. She has one daughter, three sons, and five grandchildren. She lives alone, but her daughter, who works as a factory laborer, lives nearby. Srey's favorite hobby is listening to the radio, especially programs about Buddhist teachings and spiritual education. Five years ago, Srey developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. On June 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Srey can contribute $35, but needs help raising an additional $228 to fund her procedure and care. Srey said, "As I am getting older, I have developed cataracts, which have affected my vision. I hope that after cataract surgery, my eyesight will improve so that I can go out more easily, recognize my relatives clearly, and travel to distant places to attend ceremonies and social events without difficulty."
