Johnley is a nine-year-old boy from Haiti. He lives in a small village on the island’s western coast. His father is a fisherman, and his mother sells the fish in the market. Johnley has three siblings and would like to be a teacher when he grows up.
Johnley was born with a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus. This means that a hole in the heart, which normally closes shortly after birth, remains open. Blood enters his body through this hole without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen. This leaves him weak and short of breath.
Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to support Johnley’s preparation for surgery. They are joining these funds with contributions from Have a Heart Cayman, who are supplying $12,000 for the surgery itself. Johnley is scheduled for treatment on May 19 at our medical partner’s care center, Health City Cayman Islands. After surgery, Johnley will be able to develop normally, growing strong and healthy.
“I would like to say thank you to everyone for helping my heart get better!” Johnley says.
