Nwet is 41 years old and a mother of three from Burma. She and her husband live in a refugee village in Phop Phra District, Tak Province, Thailand. They moved from Burma to Thailand in 2020 in search of better job opportunities. Nwet's daughter and two sons are studying in Burma and live with her mother-in-law. She and her husband are agricultural workers. Since January 2023, Nwet has been experiencing troubling symptoms, including swelling on her left neck. She was diagnosed with thyroid goiter. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Nwet receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on February 17th. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $1,500, and she and her family need help raising money. Nwet said, “Thank you so much to BCMF and the donors for helping me with my treatment cost.” Her husband added, “I am really grateful that my wife will receive support for her surgery costs. By ourselves, we cannot afford this. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

Rafael is an adorable ten-month-old boy who lives with his parents and four older siblings in Ethiopia. As the youngest child, Rafael brings immense joy to his family, and his birth filled their home with happiness. He loves playing with his siblings and watching other children play football. Rafael's mother is a dedicated housewife, while his father is a truck driver and the family's sole provider. Shortly after birth, Rafael's mother noticed something different about Rafael's body. She brought him to a health center, where he was referred to a larger hospital. There, Rafael was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remain undescended. If left untreated, Rafael has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Unfortunately, there is a significant wait for surgery, and Rafael's family left the hospital without a surgery date. Months later, they received a call that Rafael could be seen at our partner's medical care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). He is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on March 9th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Rafael's mother shared, "May God bless each of you. Your support for our child will be rewarded, as God watches over those who lend a helping hand. Thank you all very much."

Phally is 61 years old and a widow from a rural area in Kandal province, Cambodia. She lives with her eldest child, who works as a breakfast seller in a small booth. Her husband passed away nine years ago, and she has relied on her own strength and the support of her children since then. She is the mother of five children, all of whom are now married and living in nearby villages. Seven days ago, Phally was involved in a road accident when another motorcycle collided with hers, causing her to fall to the ground. She sustained a left femoral neck fracture, resulting in severe hip pain and an inability to walk or bear weight on her left leg. After the accident, she went to a private clinic where X-rays confirmed the fracture and surgery was recommended. However, she could not afford the cost of treatment. Later, a relative who knew about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), advised her to come for further evaluation and care. On February 18th, surgeons will perform a left hip hemi-arthroplasty procedure, which will relieve her pain, restore strength and mobility in her hip, and allow her to walk and carry out daily activities independently. She can afford to pay $100, and needs help raising $612 more to fund her procedure and care. Phally said, “After the surgery, I hope my hip will be strong again, so I can walk without pain and return to my daily activities. I want to be independent and not rely on others for everything.”
