Meet Tin, a young 20-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband, mother, and younger brother. Tin works on her family’s farm to cultivate rice for subsistence.
Tin shares with our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), that about three months ago, she started experiencing sharp pain and discomfort during urination. She also noticed a mass on the left side of her abdomen. Tin has now been diagnosed with an ovarian dermoid cyst.
BCMF have arranged for Tin to undergo an oophorectomy (or ovary removal surgery) on August 15. The total cost will come to $913, and this also includes Tin’s hospital stay and medication.
Tin says, “I hope that my surgery is successful and that I can return to farming afterwards. I hope to spend some more time weaving.”
