Lucy is a seven-month-old baby from Bolivia. She lives with her mother and seven siblings. Her mother runs a small shop out of her home to sell snacks and other products, while her father works in agriculture. Lucy was born with a cleft lip and palate, and is scheduled to have surgery in the coming months. She also has a heart condition called patent ductus arteriosus, which causes Lucy's blood to circulate poorly. She experiences a lot of weakness, and she's at risk of heart failure if the issue goes untreated. With three different heart conditions, her doctors plan to first address a hole that exists between two blood vessels next to her heart and then allow her heart to grow before treating her other two conditions. On April 14th, Lucy will undergo heart surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will sew the hole closed so that blood can no longer leak through it. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of her cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Lucy's mother shared, "I'm glad we are here at this hospital; we travelled from far so my little daughter can have her surgery."

Roberto is a resilient 56-year-old man from the Philippines. He is currently unemployed and relies on his brother for food and daily support. He had previously worked as a messenger but had to stop after being advised by the doctor to avoid lifting heavy objects. Two months ago, Roberto was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. The condition has caused him anxiety and has prevented him from working. Doctors have recommended a hernia repair surgery to treat his condition. Fortunately, on May 16th, Roberto will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Our medical partner is raising the remaining $1,038 to cover the cost of his surgery and care. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Roberto says, "Many thanks to the foundation and to all the people who helped me and became instruments of God in supporting me through this difficult time. Daud is 58 years old and a farmer from Malawi. He is a devoted father of seven children and a grandfather caring for four grandchildren under his roof. He lives a simple life centered around maize farming, which serves as the main source of food and income for his extended family. Like many hardworking men in his community, his days are spent in the garden, tending to his crops to ensure his family’s survival. For two years, Daud has had a left inguinal hernia. One day, while working in his field, Daud began to feel a sharp pain in his abdomen. Over time, the pain and discomfort have increased, making it increasingly difficult for him to carry out his daily activities, including farming. Fortunately, on April 9th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. Daud is raising $500 to fund the procedure, which will allow him to live more comfortably. Daud said, "Despite the challenges that I'm facing, I remain hopeful that the upcoming surgery will restore my health and allow me to return to my garden, continue supporting my family, and enjoy life with my children and grandchildren once again."
