Win is a 46-year-old widow from Burma. She lives with her 18-year-old son in Tak Province, Thailand. She used to work as an agricultural day laborer, but had to stop because she started experiencing back pain in April 2024. Win experiences lower back pain which intensifies with prolonged sitting. Due to the pain, she sometimes has trouble sleeping. Physicians at our medical partner's care center, Maharaj Nakron Chiang Mai Hospital, diagnosed Win with kidney stones. She needs a percutaneous nephrolithotomy, which removes kidney stones from the body, to relieve her of the pain and discomfort she feels. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1500 to fund this procedure. The treatment is scheduled to take place on September 15th and once completed, it will hopefully improve Win's quality of life. Win said, “I would like to say thank you to the donors who are helping me with my treatment. I cried when I heard that I needed surgery because I cannot afford it. Now, I am full of joy that I will have the chance to receive treatment with the help of you. Once I recover, I will work alongside my son. I do not want to be a burden to him.”

Ah resides in a village in Karen State, Burma alongside his eight-year-old son and elderly mother. Ah is a former carpenter who has been unable to work due to his deteriorating health. During his free time, he enjoys fishing. In 2018, Ah began experiencing severe chest pain and difficulty breathing at times. A medical evaluation, including an echocardiogram, revealed that he has multiple valve defects in his heart. The doctor wants to perform cardiac surgery to replace and repair his heart valves on September 12th. Due to financial difficulties, Ah sought treatment through Watsi's medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF). BCMF is raising $1,500 to support his care. Currently, Ah still has occasional chest pain and difficulty breathing which intensifies with physical activity. He also has a poor appetite, weight loss, and difficulty sleeping at night. Ah said, "I am worried about my son because I am the only one who is taking care of him. Thank you for supporting my treatment. I will never forget you."

Keat is a retired rice farmer who lives in Takeo province with his wife. Their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren live nearby and visit them often. His daughter helps support Keat and his wife by working in a garment factory. His favorite activities are spending time with his grandchildren and gardening around his house. Approximately 3.5 years ago, Keat became aware of a mass developing on his left hand. Although he sought some treatment at a local clinic, the mass has continued growing, causing him discomfort. Keat experiences pain and is concerned about the possibility of the mass expanding further. Keat traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 28th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Keat needs help to raise $273 to fund this procedure. Keat hopes to return home without discomfort, end his worrying, and help take care of his grandchildren.

Nekanisa is a jovial and social 11-year-old girl. She attends Marlal primary school in Kenya and loves reading and playing with her friends. She aspires to become a nurse in the future and help hospital patients. Nekanisa is the child of a single mother, who depends upon farming to earn a living. Nekanisa was healthy at birth. However, about one year ago, she developed a problem with her leg that led to the contortion of her right knee, greatly affecting her mobility. Nekanisa visited Loitoktok General Hospital in Kajiado County for review, but due to financial challenges, she was discharged before she could be treated. As she walks with a lot of discomfort and is unable to run, Nekanisa sought help from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. She is now scheduled to undergo a distal femur osteotomy on May 8th at AIC Cure International Hospital. She needs your help to fund this $1,224 procedure, which will enable her to walk pain-free. “I am requesting support from the donors to help me undergo surgery so that my foot can be corrected and I can resume my usual walking style,” Nekanisa told us.

Peter, who is 45 years old, lives with his wife and five young children in Pokot county in Kenya. Peter was a successful dairy farmer until drought and famine decimated his herd of cows, rendering it impossible for him to earn sufficient money to provide for his family. Currently, he works as a small scale potato farmer, while his wife is a homemaker, caring for their children. Not too long ago, Peter was involved in a road traffic accident, while heading to the farm. He lost control of his motorbike, and fractured his tibia. In order to heal, Peter needs surgery on his leg, a procedure that he cannot afford with his limited earnings from the farm. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On March 28th, Peter will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation, at AIC Kapsowar Hospital. After this procedure, Peter will no longer be in pain, and once he has fully recovered, he will be able to return to work and to provide for his family. African Mission Healthcare is requesting $1,145 to fund his surgery and medical care. Peter says: "I am the only person who works to provide for my family. My wife looks after the children at home as they are still young and need more attention. I feel bad when I cannot help them. Kindly help me so that they may not suffer."

Zoe, who is six months old, lives with her parents and two older sisters in La Paz, Bolivia. Her father is a dentist, while her mother stays home to take care of the children. When Zoe was born, she was diagnosed with Down syndrome and patent ductus arteriosus, a condition where there is a hole between two major blood vessels near the heart. As a result of this condition, blood leaks through the hole, leaving her weak and unable to gain weight, as her blood isn't properly oxygenated. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to fund surgery to correct Zoe's condition. The operation is scheduled for April 19th at Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría, where doctors will sew the hole shut, allowing for her blood to flow completely through her heart. Zoe should grow stronger after she has recovered from surgery. Zoe's mother said: "Our family is very hopeful that Zoe will gain an appetite and become stronger after her surgery!"

Rose is a 25-year-old woman from Haiti. She lives with her older sister and her family in a small community in southwest Haiti. When Rose was a teenager, one of her heart valves was severely damaged due to an infection. This caused a condition known as rheumatic mitral valve regurgitation, where Rose's heart cannot adequately pump blood through her body, leaving her weak and short of breath. She had to pause her college education due to her condition but hopes to restart school when she is healthy. On July 24th, Rose will undergo cardiac surgery in the United States. During the procedure, surgeons will remove Rose's damaged valve and implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital, is contributing $20,000 to pay for Rose's surgery. Rose's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep and follow-up. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, checkup, and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Rose's family overseas. Rose shared with us: "I am so happy to be able to have this surgery so that I can start living more normally and thinking about my future!"

John is a 9-month-old infant from Haiti. He is the youngest child in a large family. John has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, John has been experiencing increasing head circumference. Without treatment, John will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for John at Hospital Bernard Mevs. This is the only site in the country where this care is currently available. This critical treatment will drain the excess fluid from John's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, John will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. John's family hopes the surgery will allow him to live a more full and happy life.

Ally is a 4-month-old baby from a remote area of northern Tanzania. He has three siblings, and his parents practice small-scale farming. They grow agriculture crops for the family's consumption and sell the surplus harvest to cover some of their expenses. However, climate change has severely affected their livelihood; in the past three years, their harvest has been inadequate to meet the family's food needs. Ally was born with clubfoot of his left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. On February 24th, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), will perform clubfoot repair surgery that will allow Ally to be able to walk as he grows. AMH, is requesting $935 to fund this procedure. Ally's mother says: “I hope that my son lives free from this condition. I hope this treatment will make it possible.”

Dah is a 63-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her daughter, two sons, and a daughter-in-law in a village on the Thai-Burma border. They all make and sell traditional rice wine, and grow and sell vegetables on their small farm. In her free time, Dah enjoys watching television and working on her small farm. On the morning of February 3rd, one of her sons drove her and her other son to their farmland. The road was undulating and full of potholes. Suddenly, their motorbike slid and they all fell off. Both her sons were fine, but Dah broke her left femur. As a result, Dah cannot walk or move her left leg and is in a lot of pain. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Dah will undergo surgery to reset her fractured bones and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for February 3rd and will help her walk free of pain. Dah and her family need help raising $1,500 to funder her procedure and care. "I worry that I will not be able to walk like before", she said. "If I cannot walk I don't know how I will be able to work on our farmland."

Therry, who is 15 years old, lives in a small town in the mountains of central Haiti, with his parents and three younger siblings. His mother is a nurse, while his father is a schoolteacher. Therry aspires to be a doctor when he grows up. Therry was born with a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This is a rare condition, caused by a combination of four, distinct heart defects, that are present at birth. When he was a baby, Terry was brought to the United States to have open heart surgery that saved his life; however, one of the valves in his heart remained damaged, and it can no longer adequately pump blood through his lungs and body. World Pediatric Project will be covering the $8,000 cost of the surgery that Therry needs. This will involve the insertion and expansion of an artificial valve inside of Therry's existing valve, so that it can take over the function of Therry's own valve. Our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to fund Therry's pre-surgical tests, transportation to the U.S. for Therry and a family member, and post operative check ups to ensure he is healing. Surgery is scheduled for May 23rd with the incredible heart team at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Therry's mother said: "Our family would like to say that we are extremely grateful to everyone for helping Therry return to good health."

Lwin is a 37-year-old wife and mother who lives with her husband and son on the Thai-Burma border. Lwin and her husband work as day labourers in a temple as a cook and gardener. In her free time, Lwin likes to garden and enjoys growing vegetables to eat and to donate to the temple. Lwin also likes to watch Thai movies. One night in March 2021, Lwin had a rapid heartbeat and felt dizzy. Lwin could not sleep that night so her husband brought her to a clinic the next day. The doctor referred her to Mae Sot Hospital in an ambulance, where she underwent diagnostic tests, but never received a diagnosis. Lwin was given medication to stabilize her condition. During her follow-up appointment in June 2022, Lwin received an echocardiogram and was diagnosed with mitral valve stenosis. The doctor then referred her to Chiang Mai Hospital for further treatment. Currently, Lwin suffers from shortness of breath and heart palpitations. Lwin reports her arms and legs feeling heavy and trouble sleeping. Lwin has little appetite and she has to sleep propped up on pillows. On January 13th, Lwin with receive surgery to improve her condition. Our medical partners, Burma Children Medical Fund, are helping Lwin raise $1,500 to cover the cost of this life altering surgery. Lwin shared, "I will never forget the donors who will help pay for my treatment cost. When I recover fully, I want to learn how to sew so that I can open a shop from my home and work as a seamstress."
