Murungi is a five-year-old child who lives in Uganda with his single mother and three siblings. His mother has difficulty paying for her children’s education and supporting her family. Murungi is in the top class at his nursery school, and he enjoys learning songs and rhymes.
In June of 2016, Murungi’s mother discovered a swelling on his left groin. Over time, the swelling increased in size and grew painful. A local health center referred them to a regional hospital, where Murungi was diagnosed with an acquired left hydrocele, a buildup of clear fluid in the groin. At the time, Murungi’s mother could not afford to pay for her son’s treatment in a private facility.
“I am worried about my son’s health, but I have hope he will be well again,” shares Murungi’s mother.
Murungi has since traveled to visit our medical partner’s care center, Holy Family Virika Hospital. He is scheduled to undergo a hydrocele repair, which costs $185, on October 26.
After surgery, Murungi’s mother hopes that he will grow up healthy and do well in school. Murungi hopes to become a Catholic priest.
