Little Egila here is an imaginative and talkative two-year-old girl from Tanzania. She lives with her mother, who is a small-scale farmer, her father, who is a security guard, and her older sibling. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundations describes how Egila “is adorable when she plays with dolls. She pretends to be a mother carrying her baby on her back and prepares meals for them.”
Egila was born with a congenital foot deformity that forces her to walk on the outside of her foot, which AMHF reports “is painful and puts her at risk for developing early osteoarthritis.” Her family needs help funding the surgery she needs to be pain free and walk normally.
Her mother confides, “I used to pray for my daughter to be able to walk. Now that she can walk, I hope her deformity can be corrected so that she can walk properly.”
For $715, Egilia will receive a serial cast and surgery on the tendons in her foot, which will allow her to walk properly and significantly reduce her chances of developing osteoarthritis.
