“Godwin is our only son with a deformity on his foot,” his father says. “Sometimes he complains of pain and refuses to go to school. We hope that he can get help so that he can walk properly and continue with school." Godwin is a shy but sweet seven-year-old boy. He is the sixth born of seven children, and his parents are small scale farmers in Tanzania. He loves coloring pictures and pretending to drive with his kindergarten classmates. Godwin was born with a club foot that causes him great pain and difficulty walking, especially when he walks to school. Without treatment, Godwin’s gait will continue to be affected by his club foot, and he will most likely develop early osteoarthritis. For $1,160, Godwin will undergo treatment to correct the congenital deformity. This will correct the bones in Godwin's foot, allowing him to walk with ease and without pain.

Little Egila here is an imaginative and talkative two-year-old girl from Tanzania. She lives with her mother, who is a small-scale farmer, her father, who is a security guard, and her older sibling. She pretends to be a mother carrying her baby on her back and prepares meals for them.” Egila was born with a congenital foot deformity that forces her to walk on the outside of her foot, which AMHF reports “is painful and puts her at risk for developing early osteoarthritis.” Her family needs help funding the surgery she needs to be pain free and walk normally. Her mother confides, “I used to pray for my daughter to be able to walk. Now that she can walk, I hope her deformity can be corrected so that she can walk properly.” For $715, Egilia will receive a serial cast and surgery on the tendons in her foot, which will allow her to walk properly and significantly reduce her chances of developing osteoarthritis.
