The day was a celebration until his motorcycle's brakes went out. On his way home from his daughter's graduation ceremony, Peter was in a serious motorcycle accident. After being rushed to the hospital, he received basic care for injuries to his right arm, tibia and fibula fractures, and an open leg wound. He was then referred to our medical partner's care center, AIC Kapsowar Hospital, for more advanced treatment. The surgical team is planning a complex free flap operation, stabilizing the fractured bone and covering the damaged tissue. The surgery is scheduled to take place on October 21st. However, Peter's financial constraints threaten his recovery. He works as a plumber, and his wife sells second-hand clothing with enough earnings to cover daily expenses, but not a complex and unexpected leg surgery. Eab is a 76-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is a widow whose husband passed away during the Khmer Rouge era. She currently lives with her granddaughter, who works as a grocery seller. She has three children, all of whom are married and live in nearby villages. In her free time, she enjoys listening to monks chanting prayers and visiting the pagoda when possible. Eab developed swelling, pain, and redness of the right knee one week after undergoing a right total knee replacement in July 2025. Due to an infected knee implant, she subsequently underwent surgical debridement in September 2025. Despite treatment, the infection has recurred, and she is currently experiencing a recurrent right knee prosthetic joint infection. To address the infection and prevent further complications, the surgical team plans to remove the infected implant, perform knee fusion, and apply an external fixation frame as part of her treatment. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 9th, Eab will undergo surgery that will help control the infection, relieve pain, and improve the stability of her leg. This is expected to improve her ability to move more comfortably and reduce ongoing complications. Eab's family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $500 more to fund her procedure and care. An is a 76-year-old man and a rice farmer from Cambodia. He and his wife both work on the farm. In his free time, An enjoys going to the pagoda and participating in religious ceremonies. About one year ago, An developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, similar to looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When An learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 7th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $263 procedure. An said, "I hope that after my cataract surgery, my eyesight will improve so that I can return to growing rice, travel to places that are farther away, and no longer worry about my vision."
