Elifa is a small business owner from Malawi. She is 41 years old and a mother of six children. Together with her husband, she relies on vegetable farming to support their family and provide for their children's needs. For 24 years, Elifa has had an incisional hernia. In 2002, after giving birth to her first child by Caesarean section, she began experiencing severe pain around the surgical incision. For many years, she managed the pain with painkillers and continued with her daily responsibilities despite the discomfort. Over time, she developed a mass around the incision site, which caused ongoing discomfort and gradually became part of her daily life. This year, however, her condition became much more difficult to manage. For about a month, Elifa experienced severe pain from the mass, prompting her to seek medical attention. She was referred to our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, for specialized treatment. Fortunately, on October 7th, Elifa will undergo hernia repair with mesh surgery, and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $500 to fund Elifa's surgery and care. Elifa said, "I am thankful that I have finally been referred to Nkhoma, but the cost of surgery is more than my family can afford. I am asking for help so that I can have this surgery, recover well, and return to my family and my work without the pain I have carried for so long. I will be deeply grateful to everyone willing to support me.”

Surafel is a brave and energetic 11-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He loves playing football and spending time with his older brother. He enjoys learning English and dreams of becoming a pilot one day. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother is a homemaker. Despite the challenges they face, his parents do their best to provide a loving and supportive home for their children. Surafel was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition that affects a sensitive area in his body. If left untreated, Surafel has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Surafel was placed on the hospital’s waiting list for surgery. Later, the hospital liaison office contacted his mother and asked her to bring him to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). For Surafel and his parents, this support has brought reassurance and renewed hope. His mother is grateful that her son has access to the care he needs and is encouraged by the kindness and support they have received throughout the process. Surafel will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 1st. Surafel and his family need your help in raising $1,073 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Surafel’s parents shared their heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Our greatest wish is to see our son healthy and doing well after the surgery. Sophai is a 30-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He lives in Kampot Province with his parents, whom he helps care for and support. He divorced his wife five months ago and has one young son, who currently lives with his mother. In his free time, he enjoys planting vegetables around his home. In March 2023, Sophai was involved in a motor vehicle accident that caused a closed fracture of his right shin bone. After the accident, he went to a private clinic in Kampot Province, where doctors performed surgery to repair his right tibia fracture and implanted a metal plate and screws to stabilize the bone during healing. Although the fracture has healed, the metal plate and screws still cause occasional pain and discomfort in his right leg, especially when he performs heavy physical work such as farming. The discomfort affects his ability to work comfortably and complete daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 4th, Sophai will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will remove the metal plate and screws from his healed right tibia, helping relieve discomfort and allowing him to move and work more comfortably. His family can contribute $25, but needs help to raise $353 more to fund his procedure and care. Sophai said, “I hope removing the metal plate and screws will relieve the discomfort in my leg so I can return to farming and carry out my daily work more comfortably.”
