Meet 43-year-old Mary from Kenya. She is mother to two children and does casual labor to support her daily life.
“It was during a cancer screening event at a medical camp in her home area that she was diagnosed with early cancer of the cervix,” African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) writes. “Since the diagnosis, life has never been the same for Mary. She has been moving from hospital to hospital looking for help as she was told she could benefit from surgey but she had no money to pay for the surgery herself. Luckily, Mary heard about the Watsi program at Nazareth Hospital and came hoping to get help.”
Clinicians have recommended a total abdominal hysterectomy for Mary at this time. The cost of this procedure will run at $790 - well out of Mary’s immediate reach. “If I get well, I hope to start a small business to support myself and my children,” Mary says. Watsi, let’s help get her to that point.
