Sheila is a young girl from Kenya. Sheila is the firstborn in a family of two and comes from Mutamaiyu village in Kisii County. She lives with her grandmother, who works as a tea picker in the village. After Sheila’s mother remarried, she left her in the care of her grandmother. Despite her challenges, Sheila remains a cheerful and social girl with big dreams.
Sheila has clubfoot on both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. She has never been able to walk properly, relying on crawling to move around. Sheila has also never had the chance to attend school, but her biggest wish is to recover quickly so she can finally experience the joy of learning alongside other children. Sheila is currently undergoing bilateral serial casting and will soon have foot reconstruction surgery.
Fortunately, Sheila visited our medical partner’s care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on October 23rd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, requests $1,286 to fund Sheila’s clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will have improved self-esteem, and walk with ease. It will help her fulfill her dream of going to school.
“Once I get well, I’ll finally be able to walk to school and join the other children and learn with them without any struggles,” Sheila told us.
