Rose was born in Tanzania on July 26th, 2016. She is the first child to her mother, who is still a teenager.
Rose breastfeeds well, but she cries often due to a medical condition called hydrocephalus. This condition entails a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, creating excess pressure and the potential for brain damage. In order to treat her symptoms, Rose requires a $775 surgery to install a shunt. The device will divert fluid from the brain to another part of the body, relieving the increased intracranial pressure.
Since Rose’s mother is unemployed and has no source of income, she is living with her mother, who is herself a single mother. Rose’s grandma works hard to care for her daughter and granddaughter through casual labors, including laundry. She can barely support her family, and the cost of Rose’s surgery is just too high for her to afford.
Let’s help Rose obtain the surgery she needs to prevent further brain damage and the continual growth of her head. “I just pray that my daughter will get well and grow up like other children,” says Rose’s mother.
