Piseth is a 27-year-old mechanic from Cambodia who lives with his wife and son in Prey Veng province, near the border with Vietnam. His wife sells groceries at home and cares for their toddler. In his free time, Piseth loves watching soccer and playing with his son. Five years ago, Piseth had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his left ear to perforate. For this reason, Piseth experiences ear pain, discharge with an odor and pus, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and hearing loss. His condition affects his ability to communicate, and the ear discharge causes discomfort while working. Piseth traveled to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On August 19th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Piseth and his family are able to contribute $100 for his medical care but need help to raise $387 more to fund the procedure. Piseth says, "I hope that surgery will improve my hearing so I can go back to work as soon as possible and take care of my family."

Phol is a 61-year-old rice farmer from Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. He and his wife have two daughters, four sons, and ten grandchildren. Phol lives with his wife, who also works as a rice farmer. At home, he enjoys listening to the news on the radio, and spending time with his grandchildren. About three months ago, Phol developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Phol learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 8th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Phol is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and needs help raising $153 more to fund the procedure. Phol says, "I'm hopeful that after the surgery, I'll be able to see clearly again, allowing me to return to work and not feel afraid to go places on my own."

Shifa is a 34-year-old small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is the sixth born in a family of ten with four brothers and five sisters. After school, Shifa worked as a mobile money agent attendant at a nearby trading center. In 2019, Shifa married her husband and had their first child the following year. However, when she was three months pregnant with her current pregnancy, Shifa lost her husband in a car accident and her life has not been easy since then. Shifa's doctors are recommending she deliver her baby via a C-section to ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Shifa undergo a C-section on September 4th and the procedure will cost $252. Shifa says, “The day I lost my husband seems like I lost everything, am now all alone and have no other support. I request your support, and I believe that I will be able to deliver successfully.”
