Hmwe is a 25-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her parents, her three siblings - two brothers and a sister-in-law - and her niece in Tak Province. Hmwe’s younger brother is a student. Hmwe is the only income earner in the household and works as a domestic worker. Her income is however not enough to support the whole family, and they regularly have to borrow money to meet monthly expenses.
Earlier this year, Hmwe started to experience pain in her abdomen. She did not go to the hospital at first, but bought over-the-counter pain medication. However, her condition got worse and she started getting cramps and back pain. She also started experiencing frequent headaches, amenorrhea and fatigue. She was finding it difficult to continue working.
Hmwe traveled to Mae Sot General Hospital to receive care and was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. On July 2nd, she is scheduled for surgery where surgeons will remove the cyst. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Hmwe’s procedure, which will provide her relief from her symptoms.
Hmwe says, “I would like to thank all the donors. I wish them good health and weath, and I hope that all their wishes come true. After I recover, I would like to set up a snack shop for my mother.”
