Julius is a 63-year-old husband, father, and grandfather from Uganda. He and his wife have together raised eight children, all of whom are now adults with families of their own. Throughout their marriage, the couple has worked hard to provide for their family despite limited resources. Julius is a small-scale farmer who grows crops that help feed the family, and generate a modest income. His wife serves as a church leader, and dedicates much of her time to supporting the community. Twelve years ago, Julius began to experience troubling symptoms, including persistent pain on one side of his body, severe pain in his chest and lower abdomen. He has lost his appetite, suffers from recurrent fevers, and has become so weak that even bending to perform simple daily activities is difficult. The worsening symptoms have greatly affected his ability to work on his farm, threatening the family's primary source of income. Julius sought medical attention at Rwibaale Hospital and was diagnosed with an enlarged spleen. Physicians recommend a laparotomy, which is a surgery that opens up the abdominal cavity to treat his condition. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Julius's surgery. On September 1st, he will undergo surgery at Rwibaale Health Center. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully greatly improve his quality of life. Julius says: "I hope to find relief from the pain, so I can resume my duties as a farmer, and take good care of my children."

Nay is an expectant mother from Burma. She lives with her husband, her sister-in-law, brother-in-law, her nephew, and her grandmother in a refugee camp in Sob Moe District, Mae Hong Song Province, Thailand. Her husband is a general day laborer who works outside of the camp. During her free time, she likes to cook and clean her house. Nay is expecting her first child. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section due to cephalopelvic disproportion (CPD). This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Nay undergo a C-Section on August 24th. This procedure will cost $1,500, and Nay needs your support. Nay’s husband said, “I am very worried about my wife and my child, but I am also happy to get to meet my baby. If there are no donors to help us, we will need to borrow money, but I still do not know where to borrow from, as most of the people in the camp do not have much money to let us borrow. Kadia is a 32-year-old mother of three from Mali. She sells fish to earn income that sustains her family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Kadia is currently expecting her fourth child. Due to a high risk pregnancy, doctors have recommend a cesarean section delivery. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, Muso, is helping Kadia undergo a cesarean section on August 4th. This procedure will cost $259, and Kadia needs your support. Kadia says: "I look forward to delivering my baby in safe conditions."
