Ly Huor is an 18-month-old boy from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Speu Province with his twin brother and his aunt, who is a rice farmer. His parents work in garment factories in the city. He enjoys playing with toys alongside his brother. During Khmer New Year 2026, Ly Huor accidentally spilled hot water on his right hand, causing burns to his third and fourth fingers. The burns healed with scar contractures, limiting the movement of his fingers and making it difficult for him to grasp and hold objects. His family is worried that the condition could affect his hand development and make it difficult for him to hold a pencil when he starts school. When Ly Huor's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 15th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the movement of his fingers, helping him develop normal hand function so he can grasp objects, play, and learn more easily as he grows. Now, he needs help to fund this $652 procedure. Ly Huor's mother said, “It has been hard to see my son struggle to use his hand. I hope this surgery will improve his finger movement so he can grow, learn, and enjoy childhood like other children.”

Mai is a 78-year-old widow from Cambodia. She has two children and lives with her eldest child, who is a rice farmer. In her free time, she enjoys listening to monks praying. In April 2026, Mai accidentally fell from a chair and fractured the neck of her left femur, resulting in an intracapsular hip fracture. At first, she was still able to walk with support, but the pain gradually became worse over the following months. Since September, her condition has significantly deteriorated, leaving her unable to walk. She now relies on a wheelchair to move around. The ongoing pain and limited mobility have made even her everyday activities increasingly difficult, and she needs support with getting around. On November 3rd, Mai will receive a hip hemiarthroplasty with the help of our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). A hip hemi-arthroplasty is a partial hip replacement that involves replacing half of the hip joint. Hopefully, this procedure will help Mai move without discomfort. Mai's family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $612 more to fund her procedure and care. Mai's granddaughter said, “I hope my grandmother’s surgery goes well and helps her walk again. I want her to be free from the pain, move around more easily, and enjoy spending time with our family without being confined to a wheelchair.”

Felix is a 30-year-old farmer from Malawi. He is married with one child, and enjoys playing soccer during his free time. Felix values an active life, but for the past seven months, persistent abdominal pain has made it difficult for him to enjoy the life he once knew. Early this year, Felix started experiencing a twisting pain, and burning sensation in his abdomen several times throughout the day. Seeking relief, he visited several clinics, but none provided a lasting solution. After an assessment at a district hospital, he was advised to seek specialized care at a facility that offers surgical services. Recently, Felix made the two-hour journey to Nkhoma Mission Hospital. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia, which is a tissue bulge in the belly button area, that occurs due to a weak spot in the abdominal wall. Felix was informed that he needed surgery, but the cost exceeded what he could afford. Having already spent a significant amount on seeking treatment and transportation, and with limited resources and a family depending on him, he is now seeking support to undergo the surgery. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Felix receive treatment. On September 22nd, he is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery to recover from the painful symptoms, allowing him to return to work, care for his family and go back to his everyday life. Now, Felix needs help to fund this $421 procedure. He says, “I am hoping that after the surgery, I will be free from this pain and able to return to my farm. I want to work hard for my wife and child, provide for my family, and enjoy playing soccer with my friends again. I pray that with this treatment, I can regain my strength and continue building a better future for my family.”
