Luis, who is 11 years old, lives with his parents and three siblings in a small town in the heart of Bolivia. His mother is a homemaker, while his stepfather works in construction. Luis enjoys studying math, going swimming in a nearby river, and cooking.
Luis has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus where a hole exists between two major blood vessels near his heart, which causes blood to leak out, leaving him weak, and potentially leading to heart failure.
On December 4th, Luis will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During the procedure, surgeons will close the hole so blood can no longer leak through it. Luis’ family needs your help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications.
Luis said: “My birthday is coming up in two weeks and I am looking forward to being able to celebrate at home with a healthy heart!”
