Som Oeun is a 56-year-old man from Cambodia. He sells coffee in front of a factory in Phnom Penh. He is married and has three sons and one grandchild. He lives with his wife, who sells groceries, and with his youngest son, who is a student. He likes to listen to the news on his small radio. About three years ago, Som Oeun developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. Som Oeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and sought treatment. On August 25th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Som Oeun shared, "I hope that after surgery, my eye can see better so I can go back to selling and I can drive the motorbike to go far places well and I don’t worry about my eyes anymore."

Seanglong is a 19-year-old young man from Cambodia. He lives alone in Phnom Penh, where he works as a mechanic. His family lives in Kampong Cham Province. He is the second of four siblings. His older brother is a third-year university student, while his two younger siblings are still in high school. His parents are rice farmers and continue to support the family from their hometown. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and playing games. On May 6, 2026, Seanglong sustained an injury to his right lower leg after accidentally falling onto broken glass while working in a garage. The wound later became infected and required further medical care. After the injury, he initially received treatment at a hospital near his home, where the wound was cleaned and sutured, and he was then sent home. The following day, he sought further treatment from a nearby doctor and received home care for three days. However, the wound progressively worsened, becoming necrotic and developing discharge. He now experiences pain, infection, and necrosis, making it difficult for him to move and continue his work as a mechanic. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Seanglong receive treatment. On May 11th, surgeons at CSC will perform a debridement procedure to help remove pressure and infected tissue, control the infection, and support proper healing of the right leg. Now, Seanglong needs help to fund this $417 procedure. Seanglong said, “After the surgery, I hope that my leg will heal completely so I can return to my job as a mechanic and continue helping my family.”

Chanthy is a 57-year-old mother of four from Cambodia. She has been divorced since 1996 and has four children, all of whom are married and live in nearby villages. She lives with her eldest child, who works as a high school teacher. In her free time, she enjoys planting vegetables and looking after her grandchild. In May 2026, Chanthy sustained a fracture-dislocation of her right hip in a motor vehicle accident. She was a passenger on a motorcycle when it collided with a car, causing her to be thrown from the vehicle and injure her right hip. The injury has caused significant pain and difficulty with movement. She is unable to walk normally and struggles to perform daily activities independently, making her reliant on family members for assistance. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 11th, Chanthy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will realign and stabilize her hip, helping to relieve pain, restore mobility, and improve her ability to walk and perform daily activities independently. She can contribute $100, but needs help raising $500 more to fund her procedure and care. Chanthy stated, “After the surgery, I hope that my pain will be relieved and that I will be able to move and walk again. I hope to regain my independence and return to my normal daily activities.”
