Fausta is a 76-year-old mother from Uganda. She works as a small-scale farmer. Her husband died in 2021 and left her an old three-room mud house for shelter. All of her children ended their education after primary school class seven due to limited financial support except the youngest, who has proceeded to attain a diploma in teaching. He is 36 years old and a secondary school teacher. Fausta receives minimal support from her children. For five years, Fausta has had an epigastric hernia. She developed a small swelling above her navel that has grown over time. It was painless at first, but as more time passed, she started feeling pain and decided to seek medical attention. She can no longer carry on with her daily activities comfortably or put on tight clothes because she feels pain when anything touches the area. Surgery has been recommended, and fortunately, our medical partner African Mission Healthcare (AMH) can help. Fausta is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on August 18th. AMH is requesting $170 to fund the surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Fausta says, “I pray that I may get well through surgery. I will continue with farming after complete recovery.”

Leah is a 48-year-old mother of four from Kenya. She buys and sells old newspapers for a living. Her husband works as a casual laborer on construction sites. Leah lives in a two-room monthly rental house with her family. She does not currently have active medical cover. About three months ago, Leah noticed a painful lump on her right breast while taking a bath. She visited a nearby facility for a checkup, and was referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. However, she had difficulty receiving prompt medical. Three weeks ago, Leah realized the lump was growing and more painful, and sought care again. She visited Kijabe Hospital, where she underwent review by the general surgery team, and several tests, including a mammogram and core biopsy, were requested. Ultimately, Leah was diagnosed with breast cancer. She needs surgery to remove the cancerous mass, but cannot currently afford the amount required for her to undergo the procedure. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On August 21st, Leah will undergo a mastectomy at AMH's care center. During the procedure, surgeons will remove the impacted breast tissue to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. AMH is requesting $1110 to cover the cost of Leah's procedure. After treatment, Leah will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Leah said, “I am in so much pain, especially on my right breast. The cancer has greatly affected the whole chest, and I feel so worried. I need to get surgery to stop these cells from spreading. ”

Meet Pisey, a 35-year-old woman who is happily married and has a son currently studying in the sixth grade. Both she and her husband are dedicated construction workers, spending long hours working under the sun. Apart from her work, Pisey finds joy in preparing delicious meals for her beloved family at home. For several years, Pisey has had nasal congestion; this has resulted in chronic headaches, pain, fatigue, and frequent infections. She visited the local provincial hospital, where she was given medication, but it has not improved. Her family is financially burdened when she cannot work due to her illness, and she is not paid when she does not work. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. Surgeons have diagnosed Pisey with a deviated septum that is blocking her nose and affecting airflow. A deviated septum occurs when the septum bends enough in one direction to become crooked. This can make breathing difficult. On July 18th, surgeons at CSC will perform a septoplasty to relieve her pain and help her live and work comfortably again. Now, she needs your help raising $333 to fund this treatment. The cost will cover hospitalization, medications, supplies, and post-operative care. Pisey said:"I hope to breathe better and sleep well after surgery. I want to care for my son and work so he will stay in school."
