Bikram is an eight-years-old boy from Nepal. He lives in a family of six members and studies in the second grade. Bikram’s family primarily farms for their living but they cannot produce enough to fully support the family, so his father must travel to India to work as a wage laborer. Bikram loves Nepali language class and playing volleyball. “Bikram was watching older boys in his neighborhood play volleyball, when the ball rolled down the slope by the side of the court. He ran down the slope to get the ball, but fell down in the process. He developed a painful swelling in the elbow and left hand,” reports our medical partners, Possible. Bikram’s family is unable to afford treatment for his broken arm. His mother tells us, “It is very difficult for us right now. His father has just gone to India and we had already take a loan for his travel to India. It will be difficult for us even to find a loan for his treatment.” For just $205 we can fund treatment for Bikram’s broken arm. Let's help Bikram get back on the volleyball court!

Meet Aydarus, a 26-year old man living in Somaliland. He sustained severe burns in an accident, and has had to travel 16 hours round-trip to receive constant treatment in the last year, including skin grafts. Aydarus needs further medical care, but is unable to afford it since he hasn't been able to work since his accident. For $1,500 he will receive the care his wounds need as well as have his bilateral axillary contractures released, which will allow him to "be able to move his arms more freely...and therefore obtain more autonomy in his daily living" shares our partner, Edna Adan Hospital (EAH). “Aydarus is looking forward to the end of his treatment so he can start 'fresh,'" adds EAH. Meet Sijal! This nine-year-old is in third grade, and lives in Nepal with his family. Recently, Sijal was playing volleyball with his friends, and had a bad fall. He fractured his left arm, which left him in a lot of pain, and he has had to miss school as a result. Sijal’s mother told our medical partner, Possible, that she struggles “to get food [for the family] on a daily basis” and that it is “really difficult for us to pay for treatment.” The family of seven relies on a single income, and they cannot afford the $205 needed for Sijal’s surgery. Let’s help Sijal see a doctor and get the treatment he needs. Your contribution will help Sijal regain movement in his left arm and prevent any further discomfort from his injury.

"Life at the village requires one to walk a lot either going to school, to fetch water or doing other activities. We want our son to be able to help out and help himself too. We are worried that if he won’t be able to walk properly he will end up being dependent," say Furahini’s parents. Meet Furahini, a one-year-old boy from Tanzania. Furahini has a bilateral clubfoot, a condition that will force him to walk on the side of his foot as he learns to walk. The clubfoot is not only painful but "will put him at risk of developing early osteoarthritis later on, if not treated," reports our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. Furahini is the second child born to a father who is a livestock keeper and a mother who is a homemaker. Most of the parents’ “earnings come from selling goats and not too long ago they lost most of their goats to disease,” continues our medical partner. “The small vegetable garden outside their house is the one that rescued them from not going hungry when they had no goats.” For $1,160 we can fund an orthopedic procedure for Furahini. The treatment will allow him to walk normally and prevent osteoarthritis later in life.

This is Yogendra, a friendly and studious ten-year-old boy from Nepal! Yogendra lives with his two younger sisters and his parents, who both work as wage laborers to support their family. He is currently in third grade at a local public school, and he loves his Nepali language class. Our medical partner, Possible, tells us “Yogendra wishes to be a teacher when he grows up." One day, one of the boys on the school playground accidentally pushed Yogendra while they were running around during a game. Yogendra fell on the floor with an outstretched hand, which resulted in a painful and swollen right elbow. After this incident, Yogendra was unable to move his right arm and has not attended school ever since. It has been difficult for Yogendra to eat and write property as well. For $205, we can fund Yogendra's surgery and help him regain mobility in his right arm so he can go back to school!

Birendra is a sweet nine-year-old boy from Nepal. He fell into a pot of hot oil when he was just a year old, sustaining serious burns on his head. The burns were never properly treated. Now, the resulting scar tissue is preventing the skin on his head from fully healing, and his hair from growing. Birendra is in fourth grade and lives with his mother, grandmother, siblings, and uncle’s family. As is common in Nepal, his father works in India and sends money home. Birendra is well loved - his grandmother confided in our medical partner that he is her favorite grandson! For $1,415, we can pay for surgery that will repair the skin on Birendra's head and allow him to move past this childhood accident.

Bharat has been battling ear pain and headaches for two years, since an accidental perforation of his eardrum. Bharat is 16 and lives with his parents, grandmother, and six siblings in Nepal. He is in the ninth grade, and his favorite subject is science. He hopes to become an engineer in the future. For $1,105, Bharat can receive surgery to repair his eardrum and prevent permanent hearing loss. "My dream is to learn how to read and write" Matinda says, who is seven years old and currently living with her uncle in Tanzania. Though she has not attended school yet, she has not given up on this dream. Due to a burn on her right hand, Matinda has developed burn scar contracture on three fingers of her right hand. This condition is a shortening and hardening of the skin, muscles and tendons, and as a result, she is unable to use her right hand. In order to restore full function to her hand, including the ability to write without hindrance, she will require surgery and a skin graft. Her uncle, who is a waiter at a local restaurant, has three children of his own and cannot afford to pay for the operation Matinda needs. For $1,080, we can help pay for Matinda's surgery and skin graft!

John is an eight-year-old boy with a bright future ahead of him. After losing his parents, John and his sister were placed in an orphanage. It was in the orphanage that his current caregiver, Maureen, noticed that John's knees were growing inward. John has a condition commonly called "knock knees." John's legs cause him pain and limping, but a simple surgery will straighten his legs and relieve his pain. With his right knee surgery already completed, John is half way on his journey towards straight legs. Now he needs treatment of his left knee.
