This is Vun, a 70-year-old mother and grandmother from Cambodia. For the past year, Vun has experienced blurred vision as a result of hypermature cataracts. "She can't go to the pagoda, and it is hard for her to do work in her house," says our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Vun's cataracts have also made it difficult for her to watch her grandchildren, an activity she misses. Fortunately, CSC can treat Vun's cataracts for $150 and restore her vision. She will be able to see clearly and function independently again, without assistance in everyday activities. Let's help make it possible, and fund this important treatment!

Meet Irene! She is a sweet one-year-old baby girl from Kenya where she lives with her two half sisters, mother, and stepfather. Irene’s parents do not have regular jobs and rely on any casual jobs they can get in order to take care of their family. Irene was born with hydrocephalus, causing enlarged head size, intra cranial pressure, and "sun-setting" eyes. If surgery is not performed, Irene is likely to develop brain damage and blindness. “I wish we had brought our daughter to the hospital earlier. I pray that she will get treatment soon and she will go home and live a healthier life,” says Irene’s mother. For $980, Irene will receive a shunt incision. We expect that the surgery will reduce the intra cranial pressure in Irene’s head and she will not suffer brain damage nor become blind,” write our medical partners.

Naw Sein is an entrepreneur who makes and sells mats along with working as a day laborer in order to make ends meet. Earlier this year, Naw Sein noticed a mass in her uterus so she paid a visit to the traditional healer in her village. The healer told her that a spell was cast on her which was meant to cause harm or death, so she was given traditional medication to send the spirit away and cure her. Now, Naw Sein is very upset because the cost of the service put her in debt as she spent all her money in hopes of being cured yet is still unwell. After visiting our medical partner, Naw Sein was diagnosed with myoma, which causes tumors in the uterus along with intense pain that prevents her from crafting her mats. Naw Sein needs surgery to remove the tumors, which costs $1,500. Naw Sein tells us, “as the mass continues to grow, my worry grows also." Our medical partner adds, “she wants to recover quickly so she can return to work and is looking forward to not living in pain. She is eager to pay off her debt accrued from the visit to the traditional healer and start putting money away for her future and the future of her family.” Naw Sein says she wants to be the best aunt she can be for her niece and nephew. With our support, Naw Sein will be able to pay for surgery to relieve her pain and get back to work!

Simon is a 28-year-old living in Kenya with his wife and two small children. Simon works as a motorbike taxi operator, but three weeks ago he got into an accident and has been unable to work since. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, reports, “Simon fractured his zygoma, a bone found in the upper cheek, and suffered other minor injuries.” As a result, Simon is in considerable pain and is unable to eat or talk well. He needs surgery to reconstruct the bone in his face so he can heal properly and prevent infection. Simon’s family relies entirely on his earnings and they are unable to pay for the treatment Simon needs. Simon says, "I dream of owning my own home. I am working hard so that I can make my dream a reality." For $700, Simon will receive a surgery that will allow him to eat and talk without pain, and get back to work.

Sopheak is an 18-year-old student living in Cambodia. This eleventh grader enjoys school, and is in school every day, even with his painful injury. A month ago, Sopheak cut his Achilles tendon on some wood. He was rushed to the hospital, but could not receive full treatment because he ran out of money. His ruptured tendon affects his every day. Because of his injury, he experiences numbness and difficulty walking. For $300, we can fund Sopheak’s tendon repair procedure and restore his mobility. Let’s get Sopheak up and running again, and give him the chance at a healthy, happy future.

Meet Morn, a 77-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. Morn likes to listen to the radio, and has four children and nine grandchildren. A year ago, she became fully blind due to the hypermature cataracts she has in both eyes. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, reports, “Since she lost her eyesight, she’s been unable to care for herself and relies on her granddaughter to take care of her.” Morn says, “I want to be able to see again so I can walk on my own, help take care of myself and my family.” For $100, we can fund Morn’s cataract surgery, which will restore her eyesight. Sophal is a 55-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is a mother to six children and grandmother to six grandchildren. Four years ago Sophal developed cataracts in both eyes and her vision began to blur. Because she is now partially blind, Sophal has had to stop working. She cannot cook or clean to support and care for her family. "When one family member goes blind," our medical partner told us, "it affects the entire family. Fixing this condition for one person frees up at least one or two more people to live more normal lives because they don't have to be a caretaker anymore." With $100, we can fund the cataract surgery Sophal needs to drastically improve her and her family's lives. Let’s come together to give Sophal a hand!

Winnie is a 20-year-old mother of two who lives with her husband and two children in Kenya. Her husband is a casual laborer and farmer, selling some of their produce to purchase basic necessities for the family. Winnie loves to spend time with her family and says her favorite activity is, “watching her children play their favorite games.” Winnie is pregnant with her third child but is experiencing a difficult pregnancy. She has daily abdominal pain, severe headaches, and pain on her thighs. Winnie wishes to have a safe delivery in a health facility even though her family cannot afford the cost. We can fund a safe a successful delivery for $215. Winnie will also be offered advanced medical care for herself and her baby. Let’s support Winnie and her family as they welcome a new baby!

Braknai is 18-years-old and lives in Cambodia. He works in a karaoke restaurant but his dream is to feel well enough to play sports like soccer and volleyball. When Braknai was 10, a large tree branch fell on his leg. Since that time he has been experiencing pain and has trouble walking. He needs an operation to clear infected tissues in his leg so that he will be able to use it normally. This procedure, an osteotomy, will cost $300 and will take care of the infection in his tibia and improve the function of his leg. Let's give Braknai a chance to excel at the sports he hopes to play!

Meet Ponlouk! He’s a 40-year-old man from Cambodia who lives life to the fullest. He is a big fan of Cambodian boxing and was recently enjoying the festivities for Cambodian New Year, which is the largest celebration of the year. While joining in the jubilation of New Years, Ponlouk got into an accident and broke his leg. He was receiving treatment at a nearby hospital but was asked to leave because he ran out of money to pay for treatment. His leg has not healed and he needs surgery to repair the damage. For $300, we can fund a surgery to insert a plate into Ponlouk’s leg. The doctors expect that the plate will help him heal properly and give him his mobility back. Let’s get Ponlouk back on his feet!
