This is Vun, a 70-year-old mother and grandmother from Cambodia. For the past year, Vun has experienced blurred vision as a result of hypermature cataracts.
“She can’t go to the pagoda, and it is hard for her to do work in her house,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
Vun’s cataracts have also made it difficult for her to watch her grandchildren, an activity she misses. Fortunately, CSC can treat Vun’s cataracts for $150 and restore her vision. She will be able to see clearly and function independently again, without assistance in everyday activities.

Vun received cataract surgery to improve her vision.
“Vun is looking forward to seeing her daughters,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC). “[She also looks forward to] going to the pagoda by herself.”
Vun’s surgery was a success! “She can now see clearly out of her left eye,” says CSC. “And she is a candidate for surgery on her right eye next week. She is far more independent and is able to see things more clearly.”
