Tola is a 16-year-old boy from Cambodia. He has one younger brother and one younger sister. His father works as a driver, and his siblings are still in school. In his free time, Tola enjoys playing football and volleyball, singing, listening to music, and meeting up with his friends. After finishing Grade 9, Tola stopped going to school and began working repairing cars in a private garage. One week ago, Tola was in an accident and damaged his left ankle. His relative, who had been to Children's Surgical Centre before, recommended him to visit the center for treatment. Tola presented with pain and swelling on his left ankle, and difficulty with walking. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Tola receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo a closed reduction procedure on March 9th at our medical partner's care center, which will help to reduce his pain and allow him to walk with ease again. This procedure will cost $412, and he and his family need help raising money. Tola shared, "I hope I can walk again as soon as possible after my surgery."

John is a three-year-old boy from Kenya who will turn four in July. He is the oldest in a family of two children. John’s mother sells charcoal, while his father is a motorcycle rider. He is quiet and enjoys playing with other children. When John was a month old, his mother noticed that one of his testes had not descended. He was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one of the testicles remains undescended. She has been taking John to different hospitals, but he has not received treatment yet. If left untreated, John has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. Fortunately, John will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). He is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on May 25th, and AMH is requesting $483 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. John’s mother shared, “I have been taking him to many hospitals and they are always telling me to wait. Therefore, I came to Nazareth but the money required is beyond my means. I kindly seek help so that my son can be treated and have a chance of having his own children in the future.”

Olivia is a 3-year-old girl who lives with her parents in a small city in the north central part of Haiti. Her father works in a local hospital and her mother is a homemaker. She is their only child. Olivia has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This condition involves several related defects, including a hole between two chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage of one of the valves. Olivia will fly to Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On June 4th, she will undergo cardiac surgery, during which doctors will close the hole in her heart with a patch, and dissect the blockage of her valve. Another organization, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, is contributing $18,000 to pay for surgery. Olivia's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Olivia's family overseas. From father: "Our family will pray for everyone who is helping to save our daughter's life."

Yohana is a baby boy from Tanzania. Yohana is the only child to his parents who are small-scale farmers and livestock keepers. Yohana was out playing while his father was attending to the cattle, collecting cow dung from their cattle shed and burning it to keep the compound clean. His mother was cleaning dishes. Both parents were focused on their chores while Yohana went over to where the cow dung was burning. Unfortunately, he fell into it, sustaining burns on his hands and legs. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around his burn. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Yohana receive treatment. On February 16th, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery so he will be able to use his fingers freely. Now, their family needs help to fund this $874 procedure. Yohana’s father shared, “my son’s hands have been deformed. We would love for him to have both of his hands corrected, but the cost is too high for us to afford. Please help us.”

Kyogabirwe is a 32-year-old mother of two who came to our Medical Partner's Care Center Nyakibale hospital for her antenatal visits and doctors have advised her to deliver through a caesarian section to ensure her health and that of the baby. Kyogabirwe however is worried about the cost of this delivery. She lost her nursery teaching job when Covid-19 arrived and schools were closed. Their family's only source of income is her husband's small motorcycle business, but the income is not enough to meet the cost of living and medical cost. Kyogabirwe shared, “I will really be grateful for your support. COVID19 has really affected us financially. After I recovery from the c-section, I hope to continue with farming.”

Paul is a manual worker from Kaugi Village in Kenya. He is married and they have five children. Paul, who is the breadwinner in his family, is a casual driver while his wife takes care of the house and their children. In March, Paul was going home after a long day of work when he was hit by a vehicle that did not stop and left him severly hurt on the road. He was helped by good Samaritans and taken to the hospital. He sustained an open fracture on his left tibia/fibula and had an injury on his bladder. He is still in pain and cannot walk on his own. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On September 3rd, Paul will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. After healing, he will be able to walk again and his pain will be gone. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,049 to fund this procedure. Paul quietly shared, “I have suffered for the last five months and my family needs my support. I am asking for help.” Paul's Pastor added, “I have done my best to help him. I hope he can get help and be well to continue caring for his family.”

Delvin is a baby boy from Tanzania, and is the second born to his parents. Delvin’s mother has another child who stays with his father in a different region after they separated. She got married to Delvin's father who also had another child. His parents depend on small-scale farming for their living thus their income is very little. Delvin has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Delvin has been experiencing seizures. Without treatment, Delvin will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,238 to cover the cost of surgery for Delvin that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 11th and will drain the excess fluid from Delvin's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Delvin will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Delvin’s mother says, “Kindly help my son please, we are unable to afford the treatment cost and his health is worsening each day."

Monica is a farmer from Kenya. She is a widow and a mother of four ranging between 11 and 2 years of age. Sadly, she lost her husband in February 2018 after he was attacked by bandits and his cattle raided. Monica didn’t go to school when she was young, so she can’t write, read or talk the national language of Swahili. Since her cattle were taken, Monica embarked on farming millet and sorghum in the farm left by her late husband. Monica arrived at the hospital after she was assaulted by someone she knows two weeks ago and sustained injuries to her right hand. She is not able to work and is in persistent pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On January 28th, Monica will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help her heal and use her hand again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $771 to fund this procedure. Monica’s brother says, “Or hope is for her to get treated, she is the sole breadwinner to her family.”

Nathan is a child from Kenya. Nathan is the lastborn in a family of three children. He lives with his parents and siblings in a two-room house in the Western region of Kenya. Nathan’s parents sell second hand clothes to sustain their family needs. Nathan was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Nathan is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on November 28. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $700 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “I look forward to have this operation done on my son. The past year has been quite troubling for us,” says Nathan’s father.

Jackson is an only child from Tanzania. Both of his parents depend on small scale farming of maize and vegetables and only sell a few crop harvests and do not make much income. Jackson traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On October 16th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Jackson needs help to raise $689 to fund this procedure. Jackson's father says, “We have tried to seek treatment for our son ever since he was born with no luck. The doctors at your hospital can treat him but we can’t afford the cost, help us. ”

Brianna is a young girl from Tanzania. Brianna is a beautiful, friendly and cheerful girl, the only child to her parents. When Brianna was a year old, in her playful mode, she accidentally dipped her left hand in the boiling cooking oil where her mother was cooking from. She was rushed to the hospital where the burns were attended to. However, the burns healed with contractures that have affected her ability to fully utilize her left hand. Her mother sells food at a local Swahili restaurant in order to support the family. The family was not able to fully raise the money for contracture release for Brianna. Her grandmother provided them with some funding and her fingers were partly released. She, however, needed further contracture release. She was brought to our plastic clinical camp whereupon review, she had surgery recommended. The family is not able to meet the cost of treatment and so appeal for financial assistance. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Brianna receive treatment. On September 24th, surgeons at their care center will perform a burn contracture release surgery to release the two fingers allowing Brianna ability to fully utilize her left fingers. Now, she needs help to fund this $608 procedure. Brianna’s grandmother says, “Please help treat my granddaughter her parents have not been able to afford her treatment cost.”

Ivona is a baby from Tanzania. Early last month, Ivona’s mother noticed a small swelling on her neck. Her neck mass was increasing in size and causing her pain. Ivona traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 29, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Ivona's family needs help to raise $689 to fund this procedure. Ivona’s father says, “Please help us fund her treatment cost we have no means of coming up with this kind of money.”
