Meet Marlange, a sweet and gentle five-month-old baby girl from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Project Medishare (PM), "Marlange is from a family of three kids, her mother has no husband and is living with her family." Her mother sells raw food products in the street to support her children as she doesn't have anybody else to help her. The other family members “are small farmers and they all live in the countryside," explains PM. Unfortunately, Marlange has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, an ailment where excess fluid creates pressure in the head. As a result, Marlange has to deal with abnormal growth of her head, vomiting, and flu-like symptoms. According to PM, Marlange’s family “cannot pay for the treatment because they don't have the money." If untreated, Marlange could experience seizures and premature death. For $1,260, Marlange will undergo surgery to drain excess fluid from her brain and prevent further accumulation. Let’s help Marlange live a healthy and happy childhood!

"Stael loves his pacifier, and won't let anyone take it out of his mouth for pictures!" shares our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA). Stael is not quite one-year-old and lives in central Haiti. He was born with a condition called ventricular septal defect - a hole between the two chambers of his heart. "Stael has suffered from shortness of breath, palpitations, and poor feeding ever since he was born," says HCA. "If left untreated, Stael's condition can lead to heart failure and become fatal." Stael has loving parents and two older brothers. Since Stael was born, his mother has stopped working in order to care for him, leaving the family with financial difficulties. Stael's mom tells us, “I am a little bit scared that my baby is having surgery, but I trust that God knows what’s best and that everything will go well!" Stael has received $5,000 toward the cost of heart surgery from a program called Open Hearts Haiti. All that's missing is the cost of getting him to surgery. For $1,500, we'll be able to pay for his overseas transport and prep, allowing him to receive surgery to close the hole in his heart.

Meet Jean Louis, a 15-year-old boy from the Haitian mountains. Jean Louis, who lives with his parents, two older brothers, and younger sister, loves to sing and draw, but he's living with a life-threatening heart condition that makes everyday life difficult. “Jean Louis was born with a condition called tetralogy of fallot,” explains our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. “Multiple holes and defects within the heart allow blood to flow between the chambers without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen, leading to fatigue, shortness of breath, and heart failure. If untreated, it can be fatal.” According to his doctors, Jean Louis’ medical condition has weakened his ability to “play with other children or participate in school activities.” “It’s been very hard for me to walk up the hull to my house, so I can’t leave home very often,” Jean Louis shares. “I can’t wait to be able to walk up the hill with no problem!” $1,500 covers the cost to repair Jean Louis’ heart. Meet Dolores, a 43-year-old woman from Guatemala. Dolores lives with her family and sells products at the local market for a living. After being unable to afford the proper medication for her diabetes, Dolores began to develop a rapidly growing ulcer on her right leg, which was then amputated. “Since then, she's been limited to a wheelchair. She is dependent on her family to help her around the house, and she can't go to the market to sell her products like she used to,” shares our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq. They tell us that Dolores is enrolled in diabetes care at their clinic and that “her medical care is excellent. For this reason, it is the right time to help her out with a prosthetic device so she can get back to her life.” $1255 covers the cost of a new prosthetic leg, which will give Dolores back her mobility and independence. Dolores shares that “losing my leg has made me very sad. I didn’t want to go on living, but talking to Watsi has given me new hope!” Let’s keep that hope alive and give her access to the care she needs!

Meet Jennifer, an 11-year-old girl who lives in Tanzania with her parents and three siblings. She's in the fourth grade and enjoys learning English, Swahili, geography, and history in school. Jennifer's mother is a nurse and her father is a self-employed photographer. "Jennifer’s gait has been affected because of walking by using the lateral aspect of her right foot," our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), writes. She has clubfoot in her right foot which makes it difficult to walk long distances without pain. While Jennifer's parents are very concerned about their daughter's current difficulty, they have been unable to come up with funding to provide her with the surgery and treatment, including medication, a cast, and a foot brace, which will be required in order to correct her foot. But by raising $1160, Watsi donors, we can help Jennifer pay for care. “When I grow up, I wish to become a nurse like my mother,” she says. Let's help her get there.

Debendra is a 33-year-old breadwinner for his family of nine in Nepal. He owns a small piece of land that feeds him, his wife, and his kids for around three months each year. But Debendra has to travel to India every year to work as a laborer to earn enough to make up the difference. Recently, when he was climbing the stairs in his house, Debendra tripped and fell down the whole flight of stairs. He was unable to stand up and felt "a sharp pain in the left side of the hip" immediately afterward. Now, he can't work. His family relies on Debendra and his work to meet day-to-day expenses. But the cost of care Debendra needs right now is prohibitive for his family - even if they sell off the land they own. That's where we come in. For $1,415, we can pay for Debendra's surgery and support the care he needs to walk normally again.

John is 38 and lives in Kenya. Last year, he was assaulted with a machete, and his right arm was seriously injured. He has had two surgeries but is still not able to move his right hand due to extensive tendon and nerve damage. John was married for four years, but after his injury he was no longer able to provide for his wife, so she left. John now lives with his parents, who are small scale farmers. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, tells us, "John feels saddened that he is forced to depend on his elderly parents instead of him supporting them." John adds, "I want to get well and be able to work again." Before his injury, he had a job at the local bus terminus. John needs $1500 for a surgery that the doctors say will restore the use of his right hand. Let's get John the care he needs to recover fully from his assault. Meet Julius, a newborn living in Tanzania! Julius was born with an open myelomenigocele with hydrocephalus. This means that Julius is leaking cerebral spinal fluid from his back. This condition is lethal. If left untreated, he will develop sepsis and become dehydrated. Julius was born during a rainstorm. His parents were unable to arrange transportation to the hospital for days after his birth. They are cattle farmers who support their two children as well as their extended family, and therefore cannot afford Julius’ operation. His parents say, “Julius is our answered prayer. After getting a baby girl, we prayed for a baby boy and the Lord blessed us with one. It is our prayer that he will survive and grow up like other children and later on be helpful to us and the society at large.” $1025 will pay for a myelomenigocele closure and a ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion. This will cause the cerebral spinal fluid to stop leaking and allow Julius to learn how to sit up. Help us allow Julius to continue learning and growing!

Stephen is a 15-year-old teenager from Kenya. He is the oldest of three siblings and lives in a small village. Stephen’s parents own a small plot of land and work hard to support their large family. Stephen was born with part of his skull missing. Because of this, his forehead is sunken and his brain is not well protected. If Stephen experiences trauma to the head, his brain would suffer. Stephen’s mom is hopeful that Watsi can help her oldest son. She says, “My son has undergone a lot of pain and I wish that he gets the best treatment. I pray that he gets treatment and recovers quickly so that he can live a healthy life.” For $1,500 Watsi donors can fund Stephen’s cranioplasty, a surgery to repair his skull. Stephanie has a rare but curable pancreatic tumor. She's 24 years old, lives in Guatemala, and has been experiencing severe vomiting, abdominal bloating, and pain for several months. After going to the doctor, Stephanie was diagnosed with a pancreatic tumor. While most pancreatic tumors are extremely lethal, Stephanie’s pancreatic tumor is a rare type, called solid papillary tumor. Papillary tumors can be cured if they are completely removed. Meet Santos, a beautiful 61-year-old grandmother from Guatemala who is fighting advanced cervical cancer. "Santos is one of our favorite patients," writes our medical partner. "Always with a kind word for everyone, despite the great pain she is in. She has a large and loving family who are supportive and want to see her quality of life improve and pain lessen." Santos has had cancer for more than five years, but she hasn't been able to access care. Now that her cancer is advanced, her doctors say it is not likely to be curable. However, a course of chemotherapy can shrink the tumor, reduce her pain, and give her a longer and higher quality life. Meet Billal! Billal is a charming four-year-old from Ethiopia who lives with his father and two siblings. His young father is still pursuing a university education, and Billal relies on his father's education bursary to support themselves. Billal was born with Hirschprung's disease, meaning that some of the nerve cells in his colon are missing, and Billal cannot pass stool properly. As a result, he has been unable to gain weight. For $1,500, Billal will receive surgery to remove the part of his colon missing the nerve cells, and reattach the remaining parts of his colon. After this surgery, doctors expect that Billal will be able to pass stool normally. Billal's father says that he has big dreams for his son ("He will be a doctor if he is cured!").
