Meet Jean Louis, a 15-year-old boy from the Haitian mountains. Jean Louis, who lives with his parents, two older brothers, and younger sister, loves to sing and draw, but he's living with a life-threatening heart condition that makes everyday life difficult.
“Jean Louis was born with a condition called tetralogy of fallot,” explains our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. “Multiple holes and defects within the heart allow blood to flow between the chambers without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen, leading to fatigue, shortness of breath, and heart failure. If untreated, it can be fatal.”
According to his doctors, Jean Louis’ medical condition has weakened his ability to “play with other children or participate in school activities.”
“It’s been very hard for me to walk up the hull to my house, so I can’t leave home very often,” Jean Louis shares. “I can’t wait to be able to walk up the hill with no problem!”
$1,500 covers the cost to repair Jean Louis’ heart. Let's make it happen for him!
